Licensing, Bonding and Insurance for General Contractors and Small Construction Business

Licensing
Licensing your business may be required by your state depending on the trade you perform. In most states, a license is required for the more technical trades, such as electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors, and fire protection contractors. Other trades, including general contractors, may not need a state license to perform work. Typically an annual fee is required for a license, and an employee of your firm must take a written text to qualify for a state license. If that employee leaves your firm, the license is no longer valid and someone working for your company must take the exam again.

At the local level, licensing requirements vary widely. Each town, regardless of size, may require certain contractors to obtain a local license to work in that municipality. These licenses are usually valid for one year and are not very expensive.

Your local building department will know what state and local licenses you need. Before bidding any job, contact the building department to make sure you know what you will need and what it will cost. The building permit application lists all of the contractors on the project, along with their state and/or local license numbers. Until every firm on the list is properly licensed, they won’t issue the permit and the work can not proceed.

Bonding and insurance
The most common types of bonds are performance and payment bonds, bid bonds and permit bonds.

Performance and payment bonds – When a general contractor is awarded a job, it is up to him to decide which subcontractors have to provide a performance and payment bond. The subcontractor’s bonds give the general contractor a layer of protection, just as his bond helps to protect the owner.

Performance and payment bonds are actually two different types of bonds but are usually referred to collectively. A performance bond is basically a guarantee for the owner of the project from a bonding company that you will complete the project. If during the course of a job, you go out of business, fail to comply with the requirements of the contract documents or get terminated by the owner, the bonding company must step in and finish the project. The payment bond is similar, but it guarantees you will pay the subcontractors and suppliers that provide labor and materials in the performance of your contract.

Work with a knowledgeable bonding agent to establish a relationship with a bonding company. If you don’t know a bonding agent, contact the National Association of Surety Bond Producers at (202) 686-3700 or visit http://www.nasbp.org to get names of agents in your area. Bonding companies will require you to provide your current and prior three years of financial statements and your current uncompleted work on hand schedule to review your company’s qualifications.

Unlike an insurance company, which does not have any recourse against you after they pay a claim on your behalf, the bonding company will seek reimbursement for any costs they incur to complete your contract or pay your subcontractors. Therefore you must have liquid assets either within your company or personally or you won’t be able to obtain a bond. The cost of these bonds is typically 1.5 percent to 2.5 percent of the contract value.

Bid bonds – The bid bond is usually provided at no cost, but you can’t get a bid bond, if you don’t already have the ability to obtain a performance and payment bond, as described above. A bid bond gives the project owner some protection in the event the low bidder refuses to honor his bid within the allotted time. If this occurs, the bonding company will pay the owner the difference between your bid and the next bidder up to the amount of your bid bond (typically 5 percent or 10 percent of the total bid). The owner in turn can use this payment to offset the cost/time impact of having to re-award the project to another firm.

Your bonding company will need to know the value and description of the construction or remodeling project during the bid process, in order to provide the bid bond for delivery with your bid. If the bonding company must pay the owner for a bid bond on which you defaulted, they will seek reimbursement from you.

Permit bonds – The permit bond is a requirement of the municipality in which your project is located. If you fail to comply with the municipality’s construction rules and regulations, they will make a claim against your license and/or permit bond. These bonds are easier to obtain, and don’t require the same financial information as the performance and payment bonds. As the contractor, you are agreeing to comply with all of the rules and regulations of that municipality when you apply for a permit or a license.

Insurance for your small or a small construction business can be very complex. There are many types of coverage – some required by law, some optional. The basic forms of insurance required of most contractors are:

  • Worker’s Compensation Insurance provides compensation for medical care for employees injured in the course of employment in exchange for mandatory relinquishment of the employee’s right to sue his or her employer for negligence. Coverage A for Worker’s Compensation is typically statutory depending on the state where the policy is written. Coverage B (Employers Liability Insurance limit) is based on requirements in the contract.
  • General liability insurance protects your company against bodily injury and property damages suits from third parties for negligence.
  • Automobile liability insurance provides liability coverage for any auto owned or leased by the company. This policy also protects the company against auto liability claims made against the company caused by company employees driving their personal automobiles while on company business.
  • Excess or umbrella liability insurance is liability coverage over and above the primary liability coverage provided by the underlying general liability, workers compensation and automobile liability policies.

While the types of coverage listed here are the minimum required for most contractors, some projects will require specific coverage limits, as well as other related language and endorsements that your insurance carrier must provide. Send the requirements to your agent before you bid a project to ensure you can comply.

Additionally there are many other types of coverage that a business owner should be aware of such as insurance for Equipment, Employee Dishonesty and Crime, Property Insurance for your building and its contents, Design Professional Liability, Builder’s Risk and Employment Practices Liability Insurance to name as few.

You should consult with an insurance agent to determine what coverage and limits will suit your needs best. Coverage is provided on an annual basis, so you will need to renew coverage each year. It’s a good idea to get at least three separate quotes and compare.

Automatic Pest Control System – Is There Such a Thing?

We all know what ‘automatic’ means – the ability to operate independently. An automatic car wash or a sprinkler (irrigation) system both come to mind as examples.

‘Pest Control’ is defined as the act of controlling pests. Typically, pest control is a service provided by pesticide professionals who come to your property and spray chemicals.

So what could be an Automatic Pest Control System? That would be a system that runs independently to accomplish controlling pests. Huh? Is there such a thing?

Yes! In fact, there are several automatic pest control systems. The chronology and some input on how effective they are is described below:

The first automatic pest control systems were the mosquito propane tanks that emitted carbon dioxide. These machines were to be placed on a property away from where people were located. Supposedly, the carbon dioxide would lure the mosquitoes away from the people. But since there was no offering of a blood meal from the false carbon dioxide, the mosquitoes would still find the people and bite away.

The next generation of automatic are the mosquito misting systems. These are comprised of a series of tubes and small mister heads that are mounted in and around properties to control mosquitoes. There is a large, 55 gallon barrel that holds the chemicals. Periodically, the tubes are pressurized with the chemical that is released into the air to kill mosquitoes. These systems use synthetic pesticides that are harmful to bees (and small pets). If the wind is blowing or if the delicate mister heads get damaged, the chemicals go elsewhere in the environment. It is also cost prohibitive to cover an entire property.

So far, we’re only talking about mosquitoes but there are many other pests. What about ants? Don’t you want to control roaches, termites, and turf pests as well as mosquitoes?

The Automatic Pest Control System has now grown up. We’re talking about a revolutionary process that uses an irrigation system to deliver food-grade, non-chemical, cedar to control pests. Cedar – just like cedar chests and cedar closets where you never see a bug. That is because cedar controls pests!

With this system, mosquitoes are targeted. But so are fleas, ants, roaches, ticks, chiggers, garden pests like aphids, white fly and mole crickets plus many more. This set-it-and-forget-it automatic pest control system requires only a refill of the reservoir maybe once every two months.

Controls mosquitoes plus a gazillion other pests? Now that is an Automatic Pest Control System!

Types of Bedbug Exterminators – Methods of Killing Bedbugs

A bedbug infestation is something that a homeowner should address right away when it becomes apparent. These parasitic pests feed on the blood of people as well as other warm-blooded creatures. Some people mistakenly believe that bedbugs are hard to spot because they are virtually invisible to the naked eye. This is simply untrue as adults can be as long as 5 mm and 2 mm wide. The newly hatched young, or nymphs, are translucent and difficult to spot. These creatures are often mistaken for carpet beetles or other small bugs and may go unnoticed for a while.

Bedbugs are not completely nocturnal creatures, but they feed generally at night on humans since that is the most opportune feeding time. The beginning stages of the bedbug infestation can be hard to identify since the red, swollen, itchy spots that appear on a person’s body in the morning may be mistaken for mosquito bites or spider bites. While the bites from these bugs can be painful, they are not generally serious. Of course, spending the night with bloodsucking bugs is by no means a pleasant experience. Exterminating bedbugs can be done in a number of different ways.

Bedbug exterminators may use chemicals as a way of getting rid of these nasty little bugs. If chemicals are going to be used, the homeowner should take care to ensure that children and pets are kept out of the treated area for the proper length of time. Any furniture or materials that are removed from the room where the treatment is taking place should be carefully sealed to ensure that there are no bedbugs hitching a free ride into another room. An experienced exterminator will also recommend that an individual wash and dry their clothes and linens at a very high temperature for a minimum of 10 minutes.

An exterminator may also use of vacuum as a means of removing eggs and larva. These bugs are not very tolerant of extreme temperatures so a pest-control expert may also recommend that furniture be left outside, if possible, for a few days to help kill off any remaining insects. Some exterminators have taken advantage of the fact that these bugs cannot tolerate drastic temperatures and have begun to utilize heaters which raise the temperature in a room to beyond what is survivable for the bugs. The exact treatment option may depend on the exterminator’s expertise and each individual homeowner’s situation.

Portable Hot Tubs and Spas – Easy Way to Relax

Relaxation and hydrotherapy are two of the main reasons why people choose to buy portable spas and hot tubs. With warm, soothing water and massaging jets, spas and hot tubs provide an easy way to unwind and to find some relief from the tension and stresses of everyday life. Of course, many purchasers also enjoy the unique social environment that hot tubs create. Whether you want to gather with friends and family or add some extra romance to your relationship with your significant other, spas and hot tubs can provide you with exactly what you need. Best of all, there are many different brands, models and features available on the portable hot tub market so you can select a hot tub or spa that meets all your needs and preferences for the ultimate at-home relaxation.

While just about all portable spas and hot tubs are great for relaxation, it’s important that you purchase a model with the specific features and characteristics that will enhance and maximize your enjoyment of your hot tub. For example, if you want to use your portable hot tub as a remedy for arthritic pain, back pain or stiff muscles and joints, the placement of the hydrotherapy jets is an important consideration. You need to make sure that the hydrotherapy jets of your particular model are appropriately placed such that they will target and massage the particular part or parts of your body that you wish to soothe and relief of pain. Adjustable jets are also a good feature to look for, as they will allow for a more customized experience.

Other important considerations to keep in mind when looking at a selection of portable spas are size and seating arrangement. You need to think about how many people will be using your spa and for what purpose. If you have a large family or plan to use your hot tub as a focal point of parties, you will probably want to choose from a selection of portable hot tub that will seat several adults. In other circumstances, a more moderately sized spa may well be suitable for your home and lifestyle.

Luckily, portable spas are available in many different sizes and with many different seating configurations. From models designed to seat three adults to those with a capacity of up to six adults, there are many options to choose from. Naturally, in addition to size, it’s also important to take note of the level of comfort provided by the spa’s seats. If the seats are not comfortable, your relaxation and enjoyment could be significantly diminished. On the other hand, many portable hot tubs feature contoured seating which is specifically designed to offer maximized comfort which, in turn, maximizes the level of enjoyment you get out of every single one of your hot tub experiences.

In addition to hydrotherapy jets and seating, there are many other features and accessories which can further enhance your entire hot tub environment. For example, top-of-the-line digital controls and in-spa lighting are common amenities that can be found in many portable spas and hot tubs, especially those offered by highly respected manufacturers. Some portable hot tubs also feature waterfalls, which can add points of interest as well as soothing sounds. It’s also possible to add additional amenities and features to your spa environment with spa and hot tub accessories. These can include everything from towel racks and drink holders to pillows and cushions, all of which can make portable spas even more relaxing and enjoyable.

Once you choose the perfect spa or hot tub for your home, there are still a few things you need to keep in mind with regards to installation and safety. While most spas are quite quiet, you may not want to place yours too close to a bedroom, depending upon the preferences of you and your family. Also, it’s often a good idea to place your hot tub in an area where it will be relatively protected from wind, falling leaves and strong, direct sunlight. In terms of safety, it’s vital to ensure that the installation is performed by licensed professionals and that your portable spa or hot tub meets all safety standards. If children live at your home or are likely to visit, a sturdy spa cover with safety locks is a must.

Once you have decided what features and amenities you are looking for, it will be time to find the perfect model at the perfect price. Fortunately, high quality portable spas and portable hot tubs can be found for great value if you know where to look. For example, direct online retailers such as Intheswim.com offer a wide range of excellent models and brands to choose from at very affordable prices. These retailers also offer a great selection of hot tub and spa accessories. Once you have everything you need and installation is complete, you will be ready to begin enjoying hours of fun and relaxation in your very own portable home spa or hot tub.

Sprinkler Repair – Fixing A Faulty Valve

As sprinkler repair experts, a common problem we see very quickly in dry climates is a faulty valve. This article describes how best to diagnose and repair a faulty valve by replacing a failed solenoid. Although electrical components are relatively reliable, a common point of failure is the solenoid. The reason for this is that a solenoid is both an electrical and mechanical device. A fixed wire coil surrounds a mechanical piston, and when an electrical current is applied to the coil, a temporary magnetic field is created which induces motion in the piston. This motion of the piston is used to mechanically open and close the water valve.

Here is a tip on how to diagnose a faulty solenoid. In dry climates, like the Dallas Metroplex, or during periods of little rain, one section or zone of a sprinkler system will look different to the other zones. Either the sprinklers in that zone will not switch on, or they will be on continuously. Solenoid failure has the symptom of a valve becoming inoperative, either remaining in the closed position, or remaining in the open position. Normally this will disable an entire sprinkler zone, so is usually easy to diagnose. This is a common sprinkler repair.

Replacement solenoids are available for most valves, and it is a relatively straightforward job to replace one. Here is a tip before starting the job: make sure you have identified the exact make and model of the valve, as there are many variations of solenoids which are incompatible. Check with your sprinkler repair company or hardware store that an exact replacement is available before starting work. The only tools required are a pair of wire cutters and a pair of pliers.

Important advice: ensure that the main water supply to the sprinkler system is turned off, as removing the solenoid means the valve will be fully open at that time, and water will shoot up through the solenoid body if not turned off. Tip: often the shutoff is either located near the main home supply, or next to the main valve box, so look in those two locations first. Once the water is turned off, assuming the faulty valve has been identified, the repair can begin. With a pair of wire cutters, cut the 2 wires going to the solenoid. It may be tempting to just disconnect the existing screw connectors which are near the valve, but these are often corroded and it is better to make a clean-cut.

Once the solenoid is free from the existing wires, it can be removed by turning it counter-clockwise, and the new solenoid installed by turning it clockwise. Ensure it is tight enough for a water-tight seal. Once installed, strip about half an inch of insulation back from each of the supply wires and use a fresh screw nut to connect the solenoid. There are two wires to be connected, the supply wire and the common wire. The common wire is typically white to make it easier to identify.

Here is some very important information which will prevent problems happening some time later (following this advice will cost a couple of dollars more today, but can save difficult problems later on): Once the connections are tight make sure to always use a special water-tight cap over the connections. Sprinkler grease caps are available from local sprinkler supply stores. These caps are plastic tubes filled with grease; the connectors are pushed into the grease, and the folding top snapped down. This ensures the connectors are surrounded by grease, which prevents water entry and corrosion. This simple and inexpensive step will help prevent intermittent problems due to corrosion occurring later. Once the grease caps are closed, the solenoid sprinkler repair is complete.

In a dry climate, ensure that any grass that was damaged by an inoperative solenoid valve receives enough watering to recover, before returning the watering schedule to its normal setting. In wetter climates, it may be possible to just resume normal watering.

How to Find a Reasonably Priced Bankruptcy Attorney?

If you are facing bankruptcy you are probably experiencing severe financial problems. The last thing you want is to incur more expenses. You may be thinking that you would not even need a bankruptcy attorney if you could afford to have one in the first place. However, one of the expenses you should never cut back on is a good bankruptcy attorney. The field of bankruptcy is a complicated one with many minefields. You cannot go without the expertise or skill of a good bankruptcy attorney during this process. There are far too many opportunities to get something wrong and destroy your entire case. You will be much better off if you hire a bankruptcy attorney. What is complicated for the every day man and woman on the street is a daily activity for bankruptcy attorneys.

How Much Does a Bankruptcy Attorney Cost?
There is no fixed fee for a bankruptcy attorney so it is impossible to predict exactly how much you will have to pay your attorney. There are many things that determine the fees (continue reading to learn more about them). But, it is possible to make a general estimation of how much you should expect to pay. Note that the fee that you pay is for his or her service and assistance. It is not the total mount that you will have to pay for the entire process. For example, when you file for bankruptcy you will have to pay a filing fee. For now, you can pay something from $800.00 to $2,000.00 in case your case is a normal one.

What Determines Bankruptcy Attorney Fees?

– Location:
The area in which you find a bankruptcy attorney will greatly determine the fees that you have to pay for his or her services. For example, if you hire an attorney in the Upper East Side of Manhattan you will have to pay more attorney fees than someone who hires an attorney in Brooklyn which is a cheaper area of New York City. If you live in an expensive area you can save on the fees by hiring an attorney from a different location. Just make sure that the attorney you hire has experience in the court in which you are filing as procedures sometimes differ from court to court.

– If you want to save money on bankruptcy attorney fees you should talk directly to the attorney that you are interested in hiring. Firstly, only the attorney will be able to tell you exactly how much you will have to pay for their services. Also, many attorneys are willing to negotiate their fees. If you are in a very bad situation you can use this to show the attorney your financial limitations and have them bring down their fees for you. Note that if your case is a very complex one it will be harder to renegotiate attorney fees as your case will not be run of the mill and will require more time and expertise on the part of the attorney. They too have financial responsibilities.

– If you really do not want to pay a large amount of bankruptcy attorney fees you should consider hiring an attorney who has just completed his training. Their fees will be significantly lower than an attorney who has had many years of expertise handling different kinds of bankruptcies. However, only hire an inexperienced attorney if your case is fairly standard and will not be a challenge for them. If your case is a complex one, you cannot take the risk of hiring someone inexperienced who could mess things up for you.

Inflatable Bounce Houses

If you are going to be having an outdoor event with a lot of children in attendance, you should take a look at inflatable bounce houses. This form of entertainment will satisfy a number of children for hours. It also offers them a way to exercise and wear themselves out, ensuring a good night’s sleep after all the play. There are several reasons why you need to consider an inflatable bouncer.

Inflatable bouncers offer a large area that can provide a great deal of fun for children of all ages. Most are so big that at least four to five children can jump around in them at the same time. These items are similar to jumping on a trampoline, though they can be deflated for easier transport. If there are just a few children using the inflatable, no one has to wait for their turn since the play toy is big enough for everyone. Even if they do, the wait will not be long since one bouncer can hold so many children.

Many party planning companies offer rentals on inflatable bounce houses. This means you can easily book a bouncy castle for your child’s birthday party. They can also be rented for other outdoor events, such as barbeques, reunions, wedding receptions, and other events where there are several kids. When rented, it is easy for the parents to throw the perfect party for their children with little work involved. This is because most party planners will deliver, set up, and take down the bouncers for you.

Parents and other adults find inflatable bouncers enjoyable because they keep the children busy at gatherings. The adults will be free to socialize while their children are being entertained nearby in a bouncer. How many times have you been to a get together with a whiny child who wants to leave the moment you get there? Kids can become bored easily, and need something to keep them entertained. Being outdoors can be even more miserable for a child who is already unhappy. The solution is to get an inflatable bouncy castle.

An added bonus that can make inflatable bounce houses so much fun is that many will hold adults as well. For some people, they have not bounced on a trampoline or inflatable since they were a young child. Having access to one at an outdoor event can make them feel young again. It can provide just as much fun for adults as it can for kids in some situations. Children are likely to have even more fun when they have their parents jumping around inside the bouncer with them.

As you can see, inflatable bouncer houses offer a lot of fun and entertainment for children and adults alike. If you are planning an outdoor event, consider adding one of these bouncy castles into your occasion. It will be a surefire way to keep the kids from getting bored and clinging to you while begging to go home.

How to Choose a Reputable Locksmith Company

Do Your Due Diligence

Have you ever been locked out of your car or home? Either you can’t find your car keys or you locked yourself out of your home. First thoughts are typically to turn to family and friends for help or a set of spare keys, but this may not work out. Next steps are to contact a locksmith in your area. However, before sealing the deal with the locksmith business, you need to consider the reliability and honesty of the company. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, has uncovered that some locksmith companies may advertise in your local telephone book, but may not be local at all. Worst, these ‘technicians’ may not have qualified professional training at all and can cause further damage to your property.

Check Locksmith Locality

This has been noted and reported by the FTC in the past: A company not located in your area has a name for its business that is similar to the name of other local locksmiths in the area. This company advertises in the yellow pages and online directories using a local address and phone number. However, in actuality, there is no store front and the local number is transferred to a place far from your local town. Then, you may not be given a quote for the locksmith service or given a false quote. When the locksmith arrives, he may want more money and you feel pressured and stuck. If the locksmith only accepts cash, that is also a sign that the business is not an authentic local locksmith.

Sometimes you can detect these falsely “local locksmiths” as they may have multiple listings – sometimes over 30 listings in a single phone number. All these listings are under different names, but the phone numbers are all directed to a single central call center. There, operators, who may not be trained individuals, are sent to your location.

How to Best Choose a Locksmith Company

There are reliable and honest local locksmith companies out there. The best piece of advice is to do your research and due diligence before you find yourself locked out or in an emergency locksmith situation. Perhaps you are thinking about increasing your home security by installing deadbolt locks, changing locks and door keys, or even installing a home alarm system. This is an excellent time to sit down in front of the computer and research different companies. Be sure to read reviews, check that they have a local address and phone number, and compare quotes over the phone. Additionally, reach out to co-workers, family members, and friends for any personal recommendations they may have.

Once you’ve found a reputable locksmith, keep the company’s contact information in a safe place such as your wallet, phone, or address book. This can save you time, anxiety, and money in the future.

Tips for Emergency Locksmith Situations

Of course, if you are dealing with an emergency locksmith situation such as being locked out of your car, home, or office, you don’t have the same luxury of sitting in front of the computer and thoroughly checking the legitimacy of the locksmith companies. Here are some tips for such scenarios:

  • If you’re locked out of your car and have a roadside assistance service call them before a locksmith. Many times, these lock out services are included in the membership or even though the car dealership or insurance company depending on when you bought the car.
  • If a company answers the phone with a generic phrase like “locksmith services,” rather than a company-specific name, be on your guard. Ask for the legal name of the business. If the customer representative does not give an answer, call another locksmith.
  • Get an estimate for all work and replacement parts from the locksmith before work begins.
    • Ask about additional fees before you agree to have the technician come to your location. Companies may charge extra for responding to a call in the middle of the night or for driving long distance. Ask if there is a charge for mileage, or a minimum fee for a service call.
    • Never sign a blank form authorizing work.
    • If the price decided on over the phone does not correspond to the price of the work when the technician arrives, do not allow any work to be done.
  • Ask if the locksmith is insured. If your property is damaged during the work, it’s important for the locksmith to have insurance to cover your losses.

A History of the T-shirt

Know the history of the tee? How did the t-shirt get its start in the beginning of the twentieth century? How did the t-shirt become an American favorite? We’re now into the twenty-first century, and the t-shirt remains as popular as ever.

T-shirts of yesteryear were nothing like the t-shirts you know today. It was common knowledge that the first t-shirts, as you will learn, were clearly considered something to be worn underneath clothing. Certainly, the t-shirts of old were not part of a stand-alone industry, nor were they a mode of advertising.

Believe it or not, before the 20th century, there was no consensus that underwear should be included as an essential part of one’s wardrobe. Most late 19th century folks wore something like an extended shirt called the “Spiral Bustle.” Then in 1901 the predecessor to Hanes introduced for sale through catalog men’s underwear, a two-piece set.

The birth of the t-shirt appears to be accredited to the navy (and lots of sailors). No one seems to know for certain when the first t-shirt was made. As early as 1913 the U.S. Navy adopted a revolutionary new garment, a short-sleeved, crew-necked, white cotton undershirt. This garment was to be worn underneath a jumper. And what was the purpose of this undershirt? One must avoid scandalous sights, otherwise known as sailors’ chest hairs. The standard issue shirt had somewhat of the silhouette of a “T”, thus the name “t-shirt” was born.

It is also notable that during WWI while European soldiers were wearing cooler, comfy, lightweight, cotton undershirts in the humid, hot summer days, that American troops took notice. These duds were nothing like the American wool uniforms soldiers wore.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary listed “T-Shirt” as an official word in the American English language by the 1920’s. Around the late 1930’s that companies including Fruit of the Loom, Hanes and Sears & Roebuck began the marketing of the t-shirt.

As of W.W. II, the Army and 12 million Navy sailors had t-seasy rider, hirts as standard issue underwear. “Skivvies”, these new, inexpensive undergarments became known as. America saw, began to get comfortable with, and reveled secretly, daily news images of their wartime sons, wearing t-shirts (dressed barely, but with pants of course). Underwear was being worn as outerwear. Rules were flaunted about undergarments. Taboos were violated with this show of male sexuality.

Still, by and large, the t-shirt was an undergarment meant not to be seen. In 1934, however, Clark Gable shocked everyone, as he stripped off his dress shirt in the movie “It Happened One Night,” to reveal no t-shirt at all. Women swooned, and men as well. Still, the t-shirt kept itself under wraps, to be worn primarily underneath a work or proper dress shirt.

The idea continued to quickly catch on, and due to simple design, a few years later, with the leave of many sailors during the war, the popular civilian “union suit” was reduced to a “singlet” or “jersey.” In 1938, Sears introduced a t-shirt they called a “gob” shirt (named after sailors). A “gob” shirt cost 24 cents. The t-Shirt would become an empty canvas, which was allowing men to present themselves in an erotic sense and show their gender.

The t-shirt was becoming appropriate to wear as an undergarment or as an outer one. The Marines standard issue white t-shirt was replaced with sage green for camouflage purposes. In 1944, the Army surveyed enlisted men as to preference of sleeves or sleeveless. Most preferred sleeves, due to better appearance, absorption under arms, among other reasons.

The t-shirt would never be the same. Along with worldwide upheaval, WWII brought along as well the first printed t-shirts. On display at The Smithsonian Institute is the oldest printed shirt on record. This t-shirt is from Governor of New York Thomas E. Dewey’s 1948 presidential campaign and sports “Dew-It with Dewey”.

After the end of WWII, the t-shirt became the garment able to clearly display and advertise it all: cultural affiliation, class, and sexual orientation. 180 million t-shirts were sold in 1951. The rise of the t-Shirt can be traced back to the movies, and of course those big-screen movie stars: Marlon Brando, John Wayne, James Dean, and a young Elvis Presley who did their part to make the t-shirt, outerwear appropriate, or sexy to say the least.

1951’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” featured Marlon Brando’s portrayal of Stanley Kowalski, lovelorn, brutish, and primitive, riveting viewers as his buff pectorals and abs revealed themselves as unveiled by a stretched, paper-thin t-shirt. Some felt the picture created was one of a dangerous, incoherent kind of manhood, a sexualized brutality.

1955’s “Rebel Without a Cause” showed James Dean wearing a t-shirt without another shirt overtop. He made the t-shirt cool, a contemporary symbol of rebellious youth. Still, t-shirts were meant primarily for men.

In 1959, Plastisol, a stretchable ink was invented, starting a revolution in t-shirt design. After that came the iron-on transfer, and finally litho transfer. Thus was the birth of the t-shirt industry. Now marketing geniuses, like Walt Disney, “flocked” letters and simple designs onto t-shirts to be sold as souvenirs to both men and women.

Still the advertising evolution of the t-shirt would be slow. The military was first to stencil company and rank on their t-shirts. Also, Ivy League Universities made clear advertisement of fraternities on their tees. Budweiser was the first to do actual “corporate-advertising” in the late 1060’s, when they sported a Bud can on their company tees.

During the ’60s, the hippies abandoned traditional dress for tie-dye. Of course, the t-shirt became one of the cheapest and easiest garments to purchase and dye. Folks began tie-dying and screen-printing basic cotton tees, helping it to even bigger commercial success. In 1969, t-shirt wearing hippies took on the Establishment in Easy Rider. Also, advances in printing and dying allowed more variety and the introduction of muscle shirts, scoop necks, v-necks and tanks into modern fashion.

Throughout the late 60’s and 70’s, the American Tee was in full bloom. Rock and Roll bands began to realize that they could make significant amounts of money selling their t-shirts. Professional Sports caught on and soon the officially licensed t-shirt became hot merchandise. 1977’s “The Deep”, helped to form the sexual revolution of the 1970’s by means of Jacqueline Bisset’s wet tee.

What about the t-shirt in the ’80’s and ’90’s? Remember Don Johnson’s designer-tee and Armani suit combo ala Miami Vice? And what about the most memorable recent tee-film from 1996 “Mission: Impossible”, just a bit of Tom Cruise, clad in tee, doing some serious hanging from a wire. The 80’s and 90’s both saw amazing production of t-shirts with improved mechanics of printing them in increased volume for increased availability. The American t-shirt has now become known as a commodity item. More than one billion t-shirts were sold in 1995.

And now, with the advent of the internet, the t-shirt continues to become even bigger. Tee art symbolizes the cultural and social climates of our generation. Tees tell the story perfectly, and now more than ever, the t-shirt is becoming an even more individualistic mode of personal expression.

The Five Golden Rules To Tinder

Internet dating sucks. I have heard many a man say this line to me, and it’s usually the guys who haven’t had a date in months that say it. I understand if you are getting no love online then the first thing to blame is the entire World Wide Web, but just like we can’t blame the entire chicken industry for a bad chicken leg at KFC, we cannot blame the internet for our dating woes. The blame lies with only one person. YOU

Tinder IS the greatest dating application since… well, forever. Never have my friends and I had so many dates in so short a time with little to no effort. The greatest thing about Tinder is that it allows you to essentially “speed date,” you match with a girl, shoot a bit of banter back and forth, and get a date. Yes, not every girl will say yes to your request for a romantic evening under the stars, but they are on Tinder for a reason, and if they have swiped right on you, then they are already considering meeting you. So without further ado, let me break down the five golden rules of Tinder so that you too can enjoy the benefits that Tinder provides to so many men out there.

1.) 5 good photos: Now guys, I’m NOT talking about mirror selfies, or shirtless selfies. Please delete these from your phone immediately. These would be great if you were on Grinder, but luckily for us men, the female of our species isn’t searching for a six pack online. She can find that any day and anywhere. The photos must be clear, so at least an iPhone 6, but I suggest a better camera then that. You need a face shot, a full body shot, a shot of you enjoying an activity, and just showing how awesome your life is. I would also suggest that you don’t have photos of you drunk, and hanging off some girls. Some guys will put photos up with them surrounded by girls at a nightclub. This just looks try hard. Just show yourself with some friends, in classy situations, looking like a cool dude. End of story. Selfies are a big NO NO. Oh, and no pictures of your… manhood, no matter how impressive you think it maybe.

2.) The Opening Line: Okay, erase the following line from memory “Hey, how are you?” NEVER!!! Say this line again. You realise how many matches a beautiful girl might get a day? And you are opening with the most boring, generic, mundane sentence of all time. Put yourself in a girls shoes for a moment. She has jumped on Tinder. Probably because she’s bored and a little curious. Most girls will just play it like a video game, with no intention of ever meeting anyone from it, so the only way to get through to these girls is to MAKE IT FUN. Make it rhetorical and don’t ask a question. She can reply if she wants, if not, who cares. It has to be without need, without care, and look like a simple expression of the awesomeness that is radiating through you. Here are some of my favourite opening lines.

1. I sense by your witty and creative tagline that you could perhaps be lacking a little magic and spice in your day, so I am offering you a chance for your day to be enhanced by the presence of my awesomeness.

2. (Insert name here) I believe you have a confession to make…

3. I’m currently trying on a variety of outfits for my dress up party tonight. I’m thinking Batman, but then again, the redness of Superman’s underwear really makes my eyes pop.

4. I had the strangest day today. I woke up thinking it was Saturday, but then I quickly realised it was (insert day here). Luckily I am speedy and made it to work in time.

You can see that all these opening lines have one thing in common. They communicate that I don’t care, that I’m not taking this too seriously, that I am a happy guy, that I’m making it fun, and that I’m probably a pretty cool guy too.

3.) Get offline quickly: The world of Tinder moves fast, just like the real world moves fast. Women are emotional creatures, and once they stop feeling, they start forgetting. You could be amazing on Monday, but by Tuesday, you could be completely forgotten if you don’t stay fresh in her mind. This is why you must become a real person as fast as you can. Tinder should only be the method of meeting and opening. After that you need to get offline as fast as you can. Get that phone number within 4-6 messages. Just make it fun, fun, fun, fun, and then say the following sentence.

“Hey I’ve got to scoot. I have lives to inspire. You sound like you might not be a creep or a stalker. I dig that. Give me your number and perhaps I’ll message you.”

4.) Get the first meet quickly: My advice is to get it for that night. But I understand that some people may have to work week nights so you may have to wait a little. But get it as quickly as possible, and then once a day until the meeting send a funny message so that you stay fresh in the girl’s mind. Remember, woman follow their emotions, keep giving her emotion, and she will remember you, the moment you become boring, goodbye to you kind sir.

5.) Don’t bite off more than you can chew: This may be a quality problem. But once you have got steps 1-4 handled then this can become a problem. If you start matching too much, and start talking to too many, then you can actually start to get nothing. “Person who chases two rabbits catches neither.

How to Clean Attic Mold, Kill It, Or Maybe Forget Attic Mold Remediation – It Could Be Cheaper

House attic mold is one of the most “popular” items in my property inspection reports. And now is time for an explanation of how to kill mold and / or how to clean mold in the attic. But before I do that, let me give you a little advice, something to consider before you sign a few (if you’re lucky) thousand dollars contract agreement with a mold remediation company.

Attic mold remediation TIP – an alternative (to consider):

Let us assume that you are in the middle of a real-estate transaction, and the home inspector just revealed to you, that your entire house attic is contaminated with mold.

If you have a brand new roof, you can only blame yourself or try to blame the roofing contractor for not checking the attic before replacing the roof (he will laugh at you unless you’ve actually asked the guy to check the attic before the roof replacement). If you have an older roof, the importance of this advice is even greater.

Call at least 2-3 mold remediation services for an estimate – specify to the representatives, that you not only want to have the mold removed, but also attic ventilation system corrected / installed if necessary / ask if the attic insulation requires replacement.

With the numbers from the mold remediation contractors, call 2-3 roofing contractors, and ask them for a quote on the roof replacement cost including decking boards / plywood (ask the roofer to check the attic area), attic ventilation improvement, and insulation if necessary.

Be cautious if they only suggest humidistat controlled power vent installation – without properly functioning soffit vents or any type of vents along the lower portion of the roof this might not be an adequate solution.

If the attic insulation replacement is not required (it most cases it will not be possible to tell without laboratory testing), make sure it’s sealed with plastic foil before the roof and its decking replacement. Fold the foil sealing its contents after the contaminated decking has been removed, and dispose of as a regular waste (EPA recommendation).

If you only have a small area of attic contaminated with mold, the roof replacement option would be more expensive. But with an entire attic that needs mold remediation, it might be cheaper (or even much cheaper) to remove all contaminated decking, install completely new roof and correct ventilation issues.

I have seen $3,000.00 – $10,000.00 invoices for the attic mold remediation process in approximately 1000 square feet of attic area.

Benefits of the roof / decking replacement over the mold removal:

  • roof and decking replacement might be cheaper than cleaning of an entire attic contaminated with mold
  • the real-estate transaction killing mold is gone
  • attic ventilation improvement is much easier during the roof replacement and often handled with no significant / additional cost
  • the buyer gets a brand new roof

Even if the roof replacement price is slightly higher than the mold remediation process, it is still worth to take it under the consideration because you are gaining a valuable house update (new roof), that will be disclosed on a real-estate listing.

In some cases, the roof decking and framing are contaminated, and replacement of the decking only would not entirely solve the problem. In such case, you’d have to clean contaminated joist or trusses.

How to kill mold and how to clean mold in the attic.

This is not a mold killing or mold cleaning case study, it is just an explanation based on my observations and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommendations.

Even if you are dealing with a small contaminated attic area – 10′ x 10′ is the maximum area recommended by the EPA to be treated by non-professionals, forget about killing mold with spraying it with bleach or other disinfectants. It ‘s been confirmed by laboratory testing that it does not kill all of the spores and in most cases you’ll be just making a mess.

The best way to kill the attic mold (just like any other mold) is to remove it from the surface it’s growing on, or remove the contaminated surface!

EPA recommends four mold cleanup methods and all of them can be applied in the attic, assuming that it is a small area (up to 10 sq. feet).

  1. You can clean the surface by using a wet vacuum – the type you can fill its tank partially with water to contain mold residue from the contaminated surface
  2. Wipe the surface with a damp sponge or rag – use clean water or wood cleaner
  3. Use high efficiency HEPA vacuum cleaner on thoroughly dried surfaces, and dispose of the picked-up contents in well-sealed plastic bags
  4. Remove all contaminated material, seal it in plastic and dispose of as a regular waste. They recommend using HEPA vacuum after this, but in the attic you’d most likely have to remove the floor insulation (if contaminated). You can also cover the insulation with plastic foil, and fold the foil sealing its contents after the cleaning process.

You may or may not have any allergic reactions to mold. However, always use protective equipment, especially in the attic area where you are exposed to the insulation fibers and dust.

As a minimum protection during the mold removing procedure EPA recommends: Gloves, N-95 respirator and eye protection (preferably fully enclosed goggles). As an additional protection you can add half face respirator or full face respirator with HEPA filter, disposable full body clothing, head gear, and foot coverings.

How to clean mold if large section or an entire attic is contaminated

I personally wouldn’t even attempt to do it myself, so my suggestion is:

Use a professional mold remediation company:

  • check their background and check it manually by calling their clients
  • ask for clients who had their attic mold remediated approximately 1 year ago – it usually takes a winter for the mold to start growing again if the job wasn’t fully completed
  • Insist on removing the mold completely instead of encapsulating it (Media Blasting methods give the best results).
  • Encapsulation is simply a process of covering the mold contaminated surface with paint (paint like product) that contains (or at least some of them do) mold killing chemicals

If your attic mold is properly removed and all of the issues responsible for its growth corrected, which is even more important than mold removing, it will not re-grow / no need for encapsulating.

  • Hire a different contractor for mold testing and mold remediation to eliminate conflict of interest.
  • Make sure that you perform an independent clearance test after the mold remediation process completion.
  • Clearance test is to determine if there are any mold spores remaining in the previously contaminated area

Extremely important – examine the attic (or have somebody do it for you) after the mold cleaning procedure is finished.

Inflatable Water Slides For Your Next Party

What do you look for when looking for something fun for your kids to do at their birthday party or other kid party? A lot of people look for party rentals of bounce houses, bouncers, or moonwalks. There are other great alternatives as well. Inflatable water slides are an example of one of these great alternatives.

Inflatable waterslides are great for kids to use a birthday party, especially during the hot summer months. They are basically dry inflatable slides that are blown up and have a hose put on them. The hose is ran continuously so that the slide stays wet at all times. Adding water to an inflatable slide adds a great extra dimension of fun for kids. They will remember their slide for years to come and probably request it for their next party!

Most slides for backyards are about twelve feet tall. You can also get slides that are much taller, all the way up to forty feet. That will not fit in most backyards, unless you have a football field in your backyard. These tall slides are truly incredible. Kids just love to slide though. Many times they don’t even care what size the slide is. Bigger kids love the larger slides.

No matter what size slide you use the premise of inflatable water slides is the same. The kids love to zoom down the slides into the water that awaits them below. It is really a great time for the kids. Adults love water slides too!

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) When, How, and Why to Supplement

Pyridoxine (B6)

Sources and Physiologic Functions Sources: Poultry, fish, liver, and eggs are good sources of this vitamin; meat and milk contain lesser amounts. Pyridoxine in animal sources is 96% bioavailable. Vitamin B6 can be made by intestinal bacteria in healthy persons. Plant foods such as legumes, peanuts, potatoes, yeast, bananas, corn, cabbage, yams, prunes, watermelon, and avocados also contain this vitamin.

Populations at risk: As this vitamin is widely distributed, deficiency is rare except in chronic alcoholics and among women taking oral contraceptives. Elderly persons and infants of preeclamptic mothers or mothers deficient in B6 are at risk. Patients on Cycloserine, hydantoin, hydralazine, isoniazid, and penicillamine should be given B6 supplementation. High protein diet increases the needs of this vitamin.

Severe deficiencies of vitamin B6 are rare, but mild deficiencies are extremely common. Dietary data from Second National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES II) in 11,658 adults aged 19-74 y showed that 71% of males and 90% of females consumed less than the 1980 recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is the most common deficient water soluble vitamin in elderly. Single drug and drug combinations taken by elderly individuals may impose nutritional risk. Unwanted outcomes of drug-food and drug-nutrient interactions can be minimized by instructing elderly men and women and their caregivers to avoid timing errors in drug-taking behavior and toxic reactions due to food incompatibility. In addition, drug-induced nutritional deficiencies can be avoided by advising drug-taking elderly on the appropriate levels of nutrient intake. In a study which compared the nutrient intakes of American children aged 2 to 10 years, vitamin B6 was found to be below the RDA in more than 50% of the population.

Birth control pill usage and occupational exposure to carbon disulfide induce vitamin B6 deficiency and/or enhance vitamin B6 requirement. Both compounds cause adverse psychological/neurological disorders such as extreme irritability, manic depressive tendencies, headaches, and other variables, but related disorders presumably by disrupting normal vitamin B6 metabolism and vitamin B6 administration has been found to alleviate their adverse psychological symptoms. Further studies are needed to experimentally evaluate this interrelation. Conjoined exposure to OCs and CS2 may result in an enhanced disruption of tryptophan metabolism which may in turn cause exaggerated psychological sequelae associated with CS2 exposure.

Signs and Symptoms of Deficiency: In infants, convulsive seizures and hyperactivity are the usual presenting symptoms. Diarrhea is also common. Anemia and peripheral neuritis are seen in tuberculosis patients on isoniazid who develop pyridoxine deficiency. 20-30% of homocystinuric patients with dislocation of the lens of the eye, osteoporosis (brittle spine), mental retardation, and a tendency for spontaneous blood clots that can lead to heart attacks and death, respond to vitamin B6 therapy.

Biochemistry: Vitamin B6 isa collective term for pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine, all of which serve as precursors of the biologically active coenzyme, pyridoxal phosphate. Pyridoxal phosphate functions as a coenzyme that catalyze reactions in protein metabolism, conversion of tryptophan to niacin, fat metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, folic acid synthesis, glandular and endocrine functions, and for the nerve and brain energy. Vitamin B6 has a clear benefit in lessening the severity of homocystinuria, a rare disease that usually results from a defect in an enzyme used for degrading homocysteine.

Safety: Deficient and excess intakes of pyridoxine can produce neurologic disturbances. Most cases of sensory neuropathy have resulted from intakes of over 600 mg/day, but some evidence suggests that it may result from doses as low as 300-500 mg/d and that the total exposure over time is the determinant of toxicity. There is one report that a daily intake of 117 mg/day (on average) for 2.9 years may be related to some toxicity. In the same study however, the control group that did not get any neuropathy had an average intake of 116 mg/day for an average of 1.6 years, and some women in both groups had been taking as little as 50 mg/day, questioning the accuracy of the telephone survey method used to determine neuropathy.

Vitamin B6 is toxic at doses that are 1000 times the RDA. Daily doses of 2 to 5 g of pyridoxine can produce difficulty in walking and tingling sensations in the legs and soles of the feet. Continued consumption of the toxic dose results in further unsteadiness of walking, difficulty in handling small objects, and numbness and clumsiness of the hands. Where vitamin B6 supplementation is stopped, recovery begins after 2 months. Complete recovery may occur after 2 to 3 years of discontinuing consumption of the vitamin B6 supplements. One study showed development of pure central-peripheral distal axonopathy with pyridoxine abuse. Pyridoxine dose was 0.2 to 5 g/d, and duration of consumption before symptoms was inversely proportional to the daily intake. In all patients with adequate follow-up, improvement followed discontinuation of pyridoxine.

Is pyridoxine safe for long-term use in large segments of the population, including children? It would appear from retrospective analysis of several studies that pyridoxine is safe at doses of 100mg/day or less in adults. In children, there is not enough data to make any sort of suggestion. Because the major neurologic complication is a peripheral neuropathy, and the causes of this condition are myriad, pyridoxine may cause neuropathy only in patients with a pre-existing susceptibility to this condition. Family histories, drugs, alcohol, nutritional status, and toxic exposure at home or in the work place may all be predisposing factors which, in combination with pyridoxine, produce the peripheral neuropathy that is not seen in other patients taking the same dosages. The duration of exposure that causes neuropathy is still a major question. Extremely high doses cause neurologic injury within a few days, and chronic low doses seem relatively safe.

Deterioration of acne vulgaris or eruption of an acneiform exanthema was demonstrated during treatment with vitamin B6 and/or vitamin B12 in 14 patients. Females were, by far, the more frequently affected. The appearance of skin symptoms, even outside the age groups typically affected by acne vulgaris, is characteristic. The clinical appearance of acneiform exanthema occurring during treatment with vitamin B6 or B12 consists of loosely disseminated small papules or papulopustules on the face (especially on the forehead and chin), on the upper parts of the back and chest, and spreading to the upper arm. The pathogensis of the change is not yet certain. The acneiform rash generally fades within a short time after vitamin B6 or vitamin B12 treatment has been stopped.

The Literature: Heart disease Prevention:

Homocysteine

Hyperhomocysteinemia, a risk factor for atherosclerosis, is associated with deficiencies of vitamin B6, folate, and cobalamin. Patients who were given vitamin B6 for carpal tunnel syndrome and other degenerative diseases were found to have 27% of the risk of developing acute cardiac chest pain or myocardial infarction, compared with patients who had not taken vitamin B6. Dr. Ellis found that among his elderly patients expiring at home, the average age at death from myocardial infarction was 8 years later in those who had taken vitamin B6, compared with those who had not taken vitamin B6. The preventive effect of vitamin B6 on progression of coronary heart disease may be related to increased formation of pyridoxal phosphate, the coenzyme that is required for catabolism of the atherogenic amino acid, homocysteine.

The total homocysteine (tHcy) level in the serum is related to pregnancy complications, neural tube defects, mental disorder, and cognitive impairment in the elderly. In addition, over 80 clinical and epidemiological studies provide ample evidence that an elevated tHcy level is a common cardiovascular risk factor. Oral treatment with pyridoxine up to 300mg/d does not lower the fasting tHcy level in healthy subjects or vascular patients. However, pyridoxine (10 – 250 mg/d) lowers an abnormal postmethionine load tHcy level in most patients and, when combined with folic acid, nearly all obtain a normal postmethionine tHcy level.

Platelet aggregation:

In a randomized trial, Pyridoxine inhibited ADP- or epinephrine-induced aggregation by 48% and 41% (p < 0.001), respectively. It also prolonged both bleeding and coagulation time. Pyridoxine significantly reduced total plasma lipid and cholesterol levels, whereas it enhanced HDL-cholesterol level. Thus, it is suggested that oral vitamin B6 inhibits platelet aggregation in normal subjects.

Essential Hypertension:

In a study, treatment of hypertensive patients with pyridoxine significantly reduced systolic (p < 0.01) and diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.005), plasma NE (p < 0.005), and E (p < 0.05) within 4 weeks. The dose of pyridoxine used in these patients was 5 mg/kg body weight/d. Thus, pyridoxine may be beneficial in the treatment of hypertension.

Neurotransmitter Production

Pyridoxine has been known as an essential cofactor in the production of neurotransmitters. For this reason, it has been considered a therapeutic adjunct in a variety of conditions with known or suspected neurotransmitter abnormalities. Among these conditions are seizures, Parkinson’s disease, depression, chronic pain, headache, behavior abnormalities of adults and children, and peripheral neuropathy. Other clinical uses for pyridoxine include treatment of premenstrual syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. The potential neurotoxicity of pyridoxine makes it essential that vitamin intake be included as part of medical history.

Diabetic neuropathy:

Vitamin B6 has been recommended in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. Vitamin B6 deficiency was thought to be the causative factor for neuropathy in diabetes. However, several studies show that vitamin B6 supplements may not be beneficial in these patients. In one of these studies, 18 patients with symptomatic diabetic neuropathy were treated with placebo or pyridoxine. After 4 months of follow-up, there was no difference between the two groups with regard to fasting plasma glucose, motor nerve conduction velocity, or ophthalmologic examination at the beginning or at the conclusion of the study. These results suggest that vitamin B6 deficiency is not a factor in the etiology of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Gestational diabetes:

In a study of 14 pregnant women with gestational diabetes, a relative pyridoxine deficiency was thought to exist. After treatment with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 100 mg/day for 14 days, the oral glucose tolerance improved considerably. It was hypothesized that increased xanthurenic-acid synthesis during pregnancy may cause gestational diabetes. Treatment with vitamin B6 makes the production of xanthurenic-acid normal by restoring tryptophan metabolism and improves the oral glucose tolerance in patients with gestational diabetes.

Kidney Stones:

Weak evidence suggests that pyridoxine may be useful in the therapy of kidney stones. Twelve recurrent stone formers with hyperoxaluria were administered pyridoxine-HCl (10 mg/day) daily for a period of 180 days. Urinary oxalate decreased significantly (p less than 0.05) by the 90th day of pyridoxine therapy, and thus, pyridoxine in low doses (10 mg/day) is of therapeutic value for hyperoxaluric stone formers.

Autism:

A review of four therapeutic crossed-sequential double-blind trials with 60 autistic children examined the effects of vitamin B6 alone, magnesium alone, and in combination on behavioral improvement. Modest behavioral improvement was observed among children taking both magnesium and B6, but not when either one of those taken alone.

Cognitive Development

Vitamin B6 is an essential cofactor in the developing central nervous system and may influence brain development and cognitive function. Recent work in animal models suggests that vitamin B6 deficiency during gestation and lactation alters the function of receptors thought to play an important role in learning and memory. A deficiency of vitamin B6 during brain development has been shown to result in neurochemical and morphological changes that are expressed behaviorally as tremors, irritability, abnormalities in motor function, and spontaneous seizures, although the specific mechanism is still not understood. Numerous studies have suggested that pregnant and lactating women may have dietary intakes of vitamin B6 that are well below the recommended dietary allowance, which may affect the vitamin B6 status of their offspring. Reports indicate that unsupplemented lactating mothers have a milk vitamin B6 level that, in some cases, is lower than 100 μg/L, a concentration that places infants at risk of development of seizures. Although this level of vitamin B6 in milk does not always result in clinical signs of frank vitamin B6 deficiency, it may influence the normal development of the child. Evidence for such an effect was noted in an Egyptian study where abnormalities in behavior were observed in infants whose mothers had vitamin B6 levels in milk below 85 mg/L.

Thus, many conditions in clinical neurology may be responsive to pyridoxine as a therapeutic agent. The observations that serotonin deficiency is a common thread in patients with headache, chronic pain, and depression, and that pyridoxine can raise serotonin levels open a wide range of therapeutic options. Comparison with amitriptyline in the treatment of headache appears to show about equal efficacy, although side effects would be expected to be more of a problem with the amitriptyline. Some medical authorities have taken this so far as to suggest that many of the behavioral disorder problems are caused by “toxic” exposures to chemicals that are pyridoxine antagonists and that supplementation at early stages may reduce the incidence of hyperactivity and aggressive behavior.

Interaction with Medications

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) supplementation during isoniazid (INH) therapy is necessary in some patients to prevent the development of peripheral neuropathy. In vivo pyridoxine is converted into coenzymes which play an essential role in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates, fatty acids, and several other substances, including brain amines. INH apparently competitively inhibits the action of pyridoxine in these metabolic functions. The routine use of pyridoxine supplementation to prevent peripheral neuropathy in high risk populations is recommended.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Vitamin B6 is effective in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and related disorders in patients with vitamin B6 deficiency. A study found that higher plasma pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) concentrations, particularly in unsupplemented males, appeared to be associated with less frequent pain/discomfort, tingling and nocturnal awakening. In contrast, higher vitamin C concentrations or a relative deficit of plasma PLP in comparison to the plasma vitamin C (higher ASC/PLP ratio) were, in some analyses, associated with greater sensory latencies or with more prevalent and frequent symptoms. This raises the possibility that vitamin C supplementation in the presence of vitamin B6 deficit might be injurious to the median nerve and thus promote the development of the hand/wrist symptoms of CTS. Thus, there are significant relationships between plasma vitamin levels and both components of CTS (specific symptoms and median nerve slowing). The interaction between plasma PLP and ASC appears to be particularly important with respect to symptoms. Hence, vitamin B6 is commonly recommended for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Premenstrual Syndrome

A review of 12 controlled trials on vitamin B6 in the treatment of the premenstrual syndrome showed a weak evidence of positive effects of vitamin B6. A major drawback of the trials is the limited number of patients included. In a more recent well designed study, 120 women were randomized to receive active drug or placebo. Pyridoxine at 300 mg/d showed no greater benefit compared to placebo in symptom reduction.

Vitamin B6 and Exercise

Vitamin B6 may play an important role in exercise response. Vitamin B6 is essential to the production of energy during exercise. If vitamin B6 status is poor, exercise performance may be impaired. Vitamin B6 supplementation may increase the levels of plasma growth hormone during exercise and immediately following exercise. The physiologic significance of these changes has not been explored but are thought to increase muscle mass and reduce body fat. Female athletes and those who participate in sports which emphasize low body weights (e.g., dancers, wrestlers, gymnasts and runners) may be prone to low dietary vitamin B6 intakes.

Asthma:

Weak evidence suggests that vitamin B6 may be useful in asthma. A double-blind study with 76 asthmatic children followed for five months indicated significant improvement in asthma following pyridoxine therapy (200 mg daily) and reduction in dosage of bronchodilators and cortisone. The data suggest that these children with severe bronchial asthma had a metabolic block in tryptophan metabolism, which was benefitted by long-term treatment with large doses of pyridoxine. In another double-blind placebo-controlled trial, 31 patients requiring steroids (oral or inhaled) for the treatment of their asthma received pyridoxine 300 mg per day or placebo. After a 9 week follow-up, treatment with oral pyridoxine failed to improve the outcome variables in patients requiring steroids for the treatment of their asthma.

Depression:

Weak evidence suggests that vitamin B6 may be beneficial in the treatment of depression. The augmentation effect of 10 mg each of vitamins B1, B2, and B6 in 14 geriatric inpatients with depression who were treated with tricyclic antidepressant treatment was assessed in a well-designed study. The vitamin treated group showed trends toward greater improvement in scores on ratings of depression and cognitive function, as well as in serum nortriptyline levels compared with placebo-treated subjects. Thus, B complex vitamin augmentation in the treatment of geriatric depression should be considered.

Summary: Pyridoxine is essential for protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism, folic acid synthesis, glandular and endocrine function. It is also essential for the formation of serotonin, and dopamine, and aids in the formation of several neurotransmitters and is therefore, an essential nutrient in the regulation of mental processes and the mood.

A number of claims have been made about the beneficial effects of vitamin B6 on numerous conditions: atherosclerosis, attention deficit disorder, autism, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, diabetes, fibrocystic breast disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, chemotherapy, HIV patients, nephrolithiasis, osteoporosis, photosensitivity, retinopathy, and canker sores.

Evidence strongly suggests that vitamin B6 has a preventive effect in the progression of coronary artery disease. Although it did not show any effect in lowering the fasting plasma homocysteine level, vitamin B6 supplementation is shown to lower postmethionine load tHcy, which might be the reason for its cardioprotective effect.

In well done studies it has shown efficacy on par with amitriptyline in the treatment of chronic headaches. Many clinical conditions like chronic pain and depression, which are caused by serotonin deficiency, might benefit from vitamin B6 therapy. As it functions as an essential cofactor in the production of several neurotransmitters, it may be considered a therapeutic adjunct in the treatment of several conditions like seizures, Parkinson’s disease, behavioral abnormalities of adults and children, and peripheral neuropathy. Vitamin B6 is also found to be effective in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome in patients with vitamin B6 deficiency. Exercise performance is improved with vitamin B6 supplementation.

Populations who are prone to be deficient in this vitamin such as chronic alcoholics, women on oral contraceptives, patients on Isoniazid, and athletes should receive supplementation. Pregnant and lactating women should consume adequate amounts of vitamin B6 in their diets for the normal development of central nervous system and cognitive function and for the prevention of abnormal behavioral development.

Our recommendations for adults is 40 mg/d, as there is weak evidence of some toxicity at 50 mg/d. Vitamin B6 is usually safe and can be consumed in amounts of 10-300 mg/d. Although side effects are rare, doses over 300 mg/d may result in adverse neurological outcomes. Pregnant and lactating women should not consume more than 100 mg/d. Vitamin B6 supplementation should be stopped immediately when sensory neuropathy with numbness in the hands and feet and/or difficulty in walking develops while on therapy.

How to Make Money – You Have the Tools

Change is something that you will have to embrace if you want to learn how to make money. Of course, it is hard to make a leopard change its spots, or a tiger change its stripes for that matter. This is especially the case when we have become so accustomed to doing things a certain way, that we no longer need to think about them. Nonetheless, developing new habits which are contrary to what we are used to will require courage, perseverance, and self-instruction.

One of the most common occurrences, if acting impulsively upon a desire to make money money. As a result, many are often enticed by promises of immediate fortune. Based on the promise that handing over thousands of dollars to an absolute stranger will soon result in tens of thousands of dollars, many people fall for the bait. Unfortunately, they realize that the only individual who has any chance of receiving tens of thousands of dollars, is the person who just relieved you of your hard earned money. It quickly becomes apparent not only that there is no money to be made, but that you are worse off than you were in the beginning.

Nonetheless, if you really want to learn how to make money consistently over time, some changes are going to need to be made. For starters, you will need to do the things stated below.

1. Learn How To Learn

Apart from having the internal motivation to succeed, being able to discover what you need to know to be successful on your own is extremely important. You have to find out what actions you need to consistently take daily in order to accomplish your goals. However, there is a caveat. You must be able to discern what is fact, and what is fiction. While the Internet is a great information resource, it is full of an abundance of rough, and very few diamonds. As such, you have to beware of the individuals who are making promises which they know that they cannot keep. As a rule of thumb, you should always come to the conclusion that if something is too good to be true, then it is too good to be true.

2. Keep it Real

I know that there are a myriad of people on the Internet who not only tell you that they can teach you how to make money, but how to become rich beyond your wildest dreams within 30-90 days. When you encounter such nonsense, ask yourself why this individual is so eager to make you rich, as opposed to making all of the money themselves. Once you teach yourself what is real and what is fiction, you will have a great idea of what needs to be done to achieve your goals, and how long it will take. This in turn will allow you to set expectations, and avoid potential disappointment.

3. Visualize, Plan, Then Attack

For those of you who want to be successful, you must visualize your success, plan what you need to do to achieve this success, then do it. You have to write your plan down. I do not care if it is sophisticated or not. What I suggest, is simply purchasing a notebook for a couple of dollars, and placing your vision within. In your notebook, you will outline both your short-term, and long-term goals. Keep in mind that you short-term goals are merely stages which must be completed to reach your long-term goals. For each goal, you must write down the specific actions which must be taken for it to be achieved, as well as the length of time it will take. Each time you achieve a goal, check it off of your list. It is very important that you track your progress over time. Whenever you feel like reverting to your old negative habits, look at what you have accomplished thus far. You will not only surprise yourself, but also motivate yourself to keep on track.

4. Just Say NO

Get as far away as possible from circumstances which will divert you from your goals. This is of the utmost importance in the early stages of your action, as you have not yet formed habitual behaviors.

5. Give Yourself a Big Thumbs Up

The fact of the matter is that you deserve accolades right now for taking the first step to determine how to make money. This is a step which most people do not even bother to take. In the future, when you accomplish specific goals, make sure that you acknowledge these accomplishments in a manner which is consistent with the achievement. For instance, if you were ashamed to look at your bank statement in the past due to how little money you had in your account, when you reach your bank account balance goal, print your bank statement off, highlight the balance, and hang it on the wall in your office.

Photo Booth Rentals For Conventions And Trade Shows

The same type of photo booths you’ve seen at the mall can be used at trade shows and conventions. Many party rental companies rent photo booths for use at weddings and other social events. But a master marketer should realize that putting a free photo booth in your exhibit space is an excellent way to increase your foot traffic, spark conversation with prospects, and generate general warm fuzzy feelings about your brand. Further, if you know what to look for, a photo booth rental can actually give you much more than that. Modern photo booths take advantage of technology to spread your brand or message, and collect information from prospects. Some will even collect video testimonials about your product.

Make sure any photo booth rental is capable of putting your message on the photo strips. Better photo booths will even allow you to design a postcard with your branding all over it. In my opinion, this is the way to go. People loose the swag given out at shows. Free pens get used up or lost. T-shirts fade. But people generally keep photos forever. Imagine your message pinned to your prospect’s refrigerators for 10 years. Be sure to ask if the rental company charges extra for the design work.

Some photo booths will allow users to email themselves their photos. They simply enter their email address and the booth sends them an email with your custom message along with the images attached. Booths that do this are capable of storing the user’s email addresses to use for your marketing purposes later. It’s great way to fill your lead list. Since you’re giving them something for free, there’s no ill will about collecting the email address and using it. Just make sure you use a professional email service like Constant Contact to allow users to un-subscribe if they wish.

For information on Orlando photo booth rentals click here.

The most advanced booths allow users post their photos to their Facebook accounts right from the booth. If you are advertising at a trade show, imagine having your message show up in the Facebook news feeds of professionals in your industry. People almost always have colleagues from their same industry in their Facebook friends list. If they are doing something goofy in the picture, the picture will spread even further as people hit the “Like” button.

If people at the convention have already used your product, why not collect some video testimonials about it? A video capable booth will do this for you, as long as you have someone there to coach the users through it. I recommend using specific questions to make it easier on them. For example “when was the last time you used my product?” Or “how has my product changed the way you do business?” Post the best videos to a YouTube channel, and embed them on your site. As an added bonus, having a YouTube channel associated with your brand and web site will help your search engine rankings. Google, in particular, loves a site with rich content like videos.

Make the most of your photo booth rental by having a strategy. People will be laughing and having a great time in your exhibit space. Capitalize on the jovial atmosphere created by the booth. Engage prospects in small talk as you usher them in and out of the booth, and let that lead into your sales pitch. Most of all, have fun! If you’re having fun with it, your prospects will loosen up too.

Bounce House Rentals

Visit any kids’ birthday party and you’ll see the newest fashion in birthday party entertainment; the fun, inflatable bounce house which is popular as well as party jumper, moonwalk, water slide or inflatable moon bounce. Fairly cheap to rent and filled with a constant stream of cold air, these sewn vinyl party supplies come in bright colors and fun shapes (like castles, houses, slides) and keep kids jumping and entertained for hours. Bounce House rentals are huge hit with both kids and grownups. Not only do they keep children occupied, they also give the parents a needed break and help them socialize with guests. Bounce house rentals and bouncy house birthday parties for children are generally held in backyards, front yards, but depending on the season and the area, they can even be held in local parks, recreations or indoors.

Perhaps the key factor when renting a bouncy house or other inflatable such as water slides, party jumpers, moon bounces or jump and slide combos is safety. A good party rental company will have insurance, and this is particularly important if kids will be using the bounce house. Most city parks in Los Angeles and all over USA also consent that the party requires insurance if they are to set up in a community area. If possible, go and see the bounce house jumper before hand, just to be sure it is safe. You may also want to check and be sure it is clean, as microorganisms can pose just as great a danger as substantial injury. Although there are many reputable companies involved in this business, there are also those who do not appropriately take care of the party supplies.

For many customers, bounce house rental rates are the biggest concern. While you want to make sure you don’t pay more than you have to, be sure you do not sacrifice quality or the safety of your kids. Most moon bounce party rental companies have a set rate for the entire event, including set-up and break-down. Try to find some information on the company you are considering renting from. Check the Internet, ask friends and family, and look at local business reviews. A little bit of research can help you a lot. Remember just because jumpers cost more or less than their competitor, it doesn’t mean they are better. Do some shopping around; try to find a price that you can afford. For a 13′ by 13′ sized Bouncy House, it should cost around $95 US Dollars for 8 hours, and that should include delivery setup and break-down. Also be sure you try to rent one with a front ramp, the last thing adults are going to want to be doing are lifting kids in and out of the jumper all day long.

Before you rent a Bounce House you need to find out what your requirements are. Take into consideration how many kids are invited, what their ages are, if any grown up will want to join the fun jump, etc. If there are going to be small kids or babies visiting, it may be worth renting a small Jumper House as well, to prevent possible injuries with older kids inside the moon bounce. Also evaluate how much space is available on the area, as Bounce Houses can be pretty big. All in all, bounce house rentals are a great way to add fun to any occasion.

How To Choose a Bartending School

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a bartender, there are many different ways to enter this potentially high paying and interesting field. The least expensive and hardest is find someone to train you for free because most places don’t have the time or a knowledgeable trainer.

Your second choice is buy a drink recipe book and start memorizing hundreds of recipes. Not a good idea because you may be memorizing hundreds of recipes that aren’t popular. The easiest way and most expensive is to go to a bartender school. Although there are articles on the internet from so called “experts” trashing bartending schools and calling them scams. None of them claim to have attended a bartending school or even visited one. It appears their misinformation comes from a few bartenders or bar owners and not graduates. Some bar owners won’t hire a graduate and that’s their choice. Usually, it’s because the establishment has extremely high volume and the graduate doesn’t have enough speed to handle the bar customers and servers. For every establishment like this, there are many others where a graduates skills are more than adequate to do the job.

You’ll seldom hear a negative comment about a bartending school from a bartender who has graduated from a state licensed accredited bartending school. The negative comments come from insecure non-graduates who are threatened because the graduates are more knowledgeable and better trained. Where else can you get trained for a good paying job in only 1 or 2 weeks. Especially when you and earn back your investment in a few days of bartending Not all bartending schools are equal. There are many that call themselves bartending schools but who are scams.

These are things one should consider choosing a school. Is the school state licensed? State licensed bartending schools have to meet curriculum requirements, be financially secure, have proper training facilities, and approved instructors. Can you watch a class in progress? This will allow you to talk to current students to find out they like the bartending school Does the school have a real bar and full working bar equipment and tools? How long is the training program? Beware of schools with short 1 or 2 day classes. There is no way you can learn to be a professional mixologist in less than 32 hours of hands on training. Does the school have a real job placement department and can they show you a list of current job lead? How long has the school in business? If it’s only been open a short time they could be here today and gone tomorrow.

Don’t make a decision on price alone. A cheap short bartending course may save you a few dollars but won’t give you enough practice time behind the bar to build your speed and confidence.

Be a smart consumer. Don’t make a decision on a phone call or a website. If you’re serious about working as a bartender, put in the time and effort to make sure you’re going to get what you pay for.

Is the school a member of the Better Business Bureau or can it show you a license from the state department of education? There are many good schools that can start you on the right path.

One of the oldest and most reputable bartending schools is the American Bartending School. In 42 years of training bartenders, they have a 99 percent satisfaction rating from graduates. There are many other good schools for bartending out there, but be sure to take the time to visit them before making a decision.

Sports Wheel Chairs – Three Types Described

Sports wheel chairs are amazing devices that give freedom to mobility challenged people who might not otherwise be physically able to play sports. These wheel chairs are anything but normal or traditional! They’re built especially for individual sports and are customized to exact specifications so they fit the athlete perfectly.

A sports wheel chair is lightweight, but is constructed in such a way that enables the athlete excellent mobility, stability, turning radius, and responsiveness. These chairs are designed with a low, folding back, quick-release wheels, and no armrests (to allow freedom of movement). Most weigh less than 30 pounds. Some athletes use their sports wheel chair on a daily basis given that these wheel chairs are easy to maneuver and transport.

Do you love to play soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, hockey or tennis? Do you love to race or ski? There is a sports wheel chair on the market today for just about every sport. The frames on sports chairs are designed specifically with aluminum frames that will endure strain and impact.

There are three styles of sports wheel chairs:
1) Racers – these amazing chairs are built for speed and weigh less than 20 pounds so you’ll go like the wind. Constructed with a horizontal frame and featuring front wheel cornering traction, a racing wheel chair can be tricked out with paint and emblems to look like a race car. Some racing chairs can be outfitted with a titanium seat frame to reduce the total weight of the chair by 3 pounds.

2) Handcycles – a handcycle looks much like a bicycle, but is customized with handlebars, footrests, and a comfortable seat to meet your physical needs and safety while riding. Handcycles allow you to enjoy the bike trails with your children or for exercise purposes. There are a number of wheel chair sports that employ handcycles as well.

3) Court wheel chairs – the wheels on these chairs often appear to be crooked, but in fact, the wheels angle in toward the athlete to provide excellent agility and maneuverability while on the court. A court chair works well on any court – basketball, tennis, or volleyball, to name a few.

Sports chairs are colorful and trendy and can be used for every day activities in addition to sporting events.

Why are sports wheel chairs important? Athletes, who stay active, despite their physical challenges, are much healthier and more confident than those who choose a more sedentary lifestyle. Research has shown that athletes in wheel chairs enjoy better motor skills, more flexibility, better heart health, better memory, and have amazing cardiovascular and muscular endurance.

Sports wheel chairs are not inexpensive and most times, are not covered by insurance companies. A sports chair can be as low as $500 or as high as $8,000, depending on the sport you want to play. Used sports chairs can be found, but because they’re customized to fit one person, it may be difficult to readjust the fit for a different athlete. However, it’s always worth a try if your budget is limited.

If you’ve never attended a wheel chair sporting event, go! You’ll be amazed at what these athletes can do when outfitted properly.

Selecting a New Fridge Freezer

Fridges are designed to keep your food cool for a few days and work well for keeping the milk fresh and other produce. Freezers can be used for storing meet and will keep food for many weeks. You will also see combination, fridge-freezer products where the unit has a small freezer compartment at the top of the fridge. There are also chest freezers, which have a lid on the top face of the product. Chest freezers have a higher capacity than upright freezers but may not have many drawers. Chest freezers are available in short width (600mm), similar in width to a washing machine, and full-width, approximately 1.6M wide. Look out for lockable lids on chest freezers as you can store a lot of food in a chest freezer, which is going to be worth a lot of money. The lid on a wide chest freezer could be quite heavy also so see if it has a counter-balance mechanism, which will make it easier to open.

A fridge temperature should be no more than 5 degrees whereas a freezer works around minus 18 to minus 22 degrees. Some fridges and freezers have warning lights and audible alarms if the temperature gets to hot. They also have a fast freeze mode to reduce the freezer temperature quickly.

Energy Ratings:
In the shops you will see energy efficiency ratings for washing machines. Fridges and freezers machines are rated on a scale from A to G where G is the least efficient and uses more energy than the A rated products. Most fridge freezers available today are at least A rated, which has lead to the introduction of an A+ and even A++ standard.

American style fridge freezers tend to be around 2m high with two doors and a cold water dispenser built into one of the doors. They are available in a choice of styles and colours and may include a fast freeze feature.

Integrated fridge freezers or under-counter fridge freezers are designed to fit under a work surface and are a similar size to a washing machine. The fridges and freezers tend to be separate items with approximately 3cu.ft of storage capacity. They are available in a choice of colours to fit with your other kitchen appliances.

Options
Some options you may see when looking for fridges and freezers include: LED temperature display; door open warning light; Independent fridge and freezer temperature controls; Energy saving option; fast freeze feature; Dairy and egg trays; Ice cube trays; Can dispenser; Bottle racks and humidity controls to make salad crisper.

Noise performance:
Fridges and freezers tend to be fairly quite products and have only one compressor which would be making noise. The noise is measured in dB(A) or decibels.. If you prefer your fridge or freezer to be quieter then look for one with lower figures for noise performance. Typical noise performance figures for fridges and freezers are around 42dB.

Colours
For many years fridges and freezers were available in white but more recently we have seen some manufacturers making their products available in other colours including: Black, Silver, Cream and even Pink! Some manufacturers such as SMEG also have designer products with flags and other styles if you’re looking for something a bit more funky.

Brands
There are many companies around the world manufacturing washing machines and leading brands include Samsung; Bosch; Hotpoint; Miele; Zanussi and Indesit.

Prices
Under-counter fridge prices start at just over £100 at the lower end of the scale and rise to over £1200 for designer products. An average fridge will probably be around £150 to £300 for an under-counter fridge or £300 to £600 for a full-height fridge. Cheaper washing machines tend to be made using lower quality components and the finish may also degrade over time. The fridge/freezer components including plastics, shelves and door may be more likely to be broken during use and the fridge freezer may last only a few years. More expensive fridge freezers tend to use higher quality components and finish and have been designed and tested, to be used for many years. Of course, if a fridge freezer breaks down you may be able to simply buy a new one compared to the cost of fixing a higher quality machine. Cheaper machines will tend to be more noisy, have fewer features and may take slightly more energy in use.

In conclusion, there’s a staggering range of fridges, freezers and fridge-freezers available on the market to suit your tastes and price point. Fridge freezers are well-developed products and whether you chose a higher cost quality product or lower cost route you will find many products to fit your budget.

Reasons for Not Having Photo Birth Announcements

Well, we might as well come right out and say it – photo birth announcementsare usually expensive and time-consuming when you probably have very little money and time. It takes time and money to get all those photos printed, write in each one, stick all those stamps on the envelopes, address the envelopes, and then still send them out. Oh, and another problem is that you’re not even sure they will arrive after all of this.

As a new mom or dad your time is really precious. Baby is taking up a lot of it and you still need time to eat, sleep and shower yourself so time is one thing you do not have. Money is probably scarce after buying all those new baby items too so if you can save money you will. Well, as we say, this is USUALLY the case with birth photography announcements but not always and we will tell you why…

Baby Photo Birth Announcements Online

Today you can quickly and easily put up a web page for free (you can sign up for a free web page at Events Listed Photo Birth Announcements). Once your web page is up you can put up all the photos you like (after all, it is free – you don’t have any printing costs). You will also be able to add audio clips, video, other little notes and really whatever you feel would make your photo birth announcement just too precious and help express your excitement on the birth of your new baby.

If you are having one of those announcement parties to announce the birth of your new baby then you can also send out invitations via your web page and collect responses.

This also acts as a permanent reminder and you can keep it up as long as you choose – go back and add little notes about baby’s first words, take some videos of when baby learns to walk and put these up, and add to the web page as baby grows up. Then one day when these days are long past you, and your now grown child, will be able to look back at these precious moments with joy because of the way you have captured it forever.

Don’t get put off by the problems associated with photo birth announcements, instead just change your tactics – put all those photos as well as audio and video online and you will be able to make an even cuter announcement for free and still have time left for all those other things that make the life of a new mom or dad hectic. Outsourced Vs In House SEO

Internet Marketing is growing by the day. In such a situation, it is not enough for a business to have just a website. It is important for this website to be visible to the users and appear in search results when users search for related keywords. With so many companies and websites selling the same products or services as your business, how do you make sure that you get noticed and get more business?

This is where Search Engine Optimization (SEO) comes into picture. Many companies are incorporating SEO into their marketing strategies. This raises one more question. Is In-House SEO better or should you Outsource the SEO of your website to an agency? What are the pros and cons of getting the SEO of your website done In-House as compared to outsourcing your SEO needs? Both In-House SEO and Outsourcing SEO have its pros and cons. Each company needs to look into both these models and then decide based on their needs.

Pros of In-House SEO

1. An In-House SEO expert will know your business well and hence will understand the nuances of company and its challenges as well.

2. Doing your SEO In-House gives you complete control over the strategies and their execution. The SEO expert can be contacted immediately for any changes since he sits in the same office as the other members of the company.

3. The In-House SEO expert works only on your website and not on any other websites. This means that the expert can give full attention to your site and can work on improving the rankings of your website.

4. Sometimes In-House SEO is lesser expensive that Outsourced SEO agencies.

In-House SEO Cons

1. SEO is a rapidly changing field. The algorithms of search engines keep changing. One needs to always be updated with the changes. The skills in SEO also keep changing. If you decide to do the SEO of your site In-House, then you need to spend time and sometimes money to learn the new aspects of SEO and keep yourself updated with the changes.

2. It may be time consuming if you have to keep up to the trends of the business. And it is important to keep with the trends of the business if you choose to do your SEO In-House. You will also have to pay attention to the overall marketing of your website and may not find the time to update yourself with the latest in SEO. This can result in outdated SEO practices which can further affect your sites ranking.

3. SEO requires a number of tools. If you choose to do your SEO In-House, then you need to buy these tools. This can be very expensive. Just having these tools is not enough. You also need to learn how to use them which can further take up a lot of your time.

Outsourced SEO Pros

1. The biggest advantage of outsourcing your SEO needs to an agency is that you get the expertise of an entire team of SEO experts who will work on your website. Since, it is a team that only works on SEO projects, they will be up to date with the latest trends in business and hence you do not have to spend time or money in getting yourself familiar with these trends. The team will create SEO strategies for your business keeping these trends in mind.

2. SEO agencies work with a large number of clients. The advantage of this is that they have the experience of working on different kinds of businesses and understand their needs better. This wide perspective can be a big advantage in getting visibility on the web.

3. If you outsource SEO to an agency, you don’t have to spend time, effort and money on hiring an In-House SEO team, training and tools.

4. The outsourced SEO agency will not be affected by the pressures of other aspects of marketing your business and can concentrate only on the SEO of your website.

5. Outsourcing SEO means faster execution of tasks since you get a team of people working on your website as opposed to one or two in-house experts.

Outsourced SEO Cons

1. Outsourcing SEO may require you to sometimes invest a little more money than you would if you were to do the SEO of your website in-house by yourself.

2. If you outsource the SEO of your website to an agency, then they would need sometime to get to know your business and the way you work. This would take up sometime till the agency gets used to working with your company.

3. Since the agency will be handling more than just your website, you cannot be sure of the time and focus that the agency will be giving your website. You may have to constantly keep checking on the work done and on the progress of your site.

4. Some of the SEO agencies may use cheap tool based SEO or black hat SEO techniques to get the results that they promise their clients. You may have to be involved with the agency’s work to make sure such techniques are not being used for your website.

Google has remained top, since they have accurate methods and algorithms that deliver credible results to the searchers. However, Google has made it difficult for web developers to use optimization tricks in manipulating search engines. This is why SEO companies have the guaranteed SEO money refund.

Many webmasters are confused when hiring a search engine optimization SEO expert. Although SEO experts are believed to save time and improve webmaster sites through SEO strategies, they can also frustrate webmasters. Thus, webmasters must investigate the pros and cons of SEO services. The major tasks of the SEO experts are:

– Ensure that the site is well reviewed in the content or structure

When they want to start a new site it is good to look for web developers who have web design talent. The web developer will ensure that a webmaster’s site reaches the top search engine ranking like Google or Yahoo. The web developer also assists in improving an existing site.

However, webmasters have to ask several questions about search engine optimization SEO including:

1. Do they have previous examples and testimonies from past clients?
2. Do they follow the guidelines from the Google webmaster?
3. Do they implement the SEO Internet marketing services to improve online business?
4. Do they have experience in the webmaster’s industry?
5. Do they have knowledge of the webmaster’s country/city?
6. Do they have experience in developing sites for international companies?
7. What are the best SEO techniques to implement on the webmaster’s site?
8. How long has the SEO expert been in web design?
9. Does the SEO expert have good communication skills when making changes on the client’s site?

Although the SEO experts provide great SEO services to their clients, there are a few who ruin the web design industry through their greed in marketing efforts and manipulate search engine rank. If search engine optimization SEO does not involve ethical practices, the site may have low visibility on Google or even be removed from the Google index.

Roofing – Under the Shingles – What’s Under the Asphalt, Metal, Wood, Rubber Or Clay Tiles on a Roof

Imagine, you’re standing on the sidewalk, looking at an average house. You see the siding, the windows, the front door, and way up above, you see the roof. Does the roof have asphalt shingles? Wood shakes perhaps? Maybe it’s made of metal or rubber tiles? What you see is where the focus goes, but it’s what you don’t see that really matters. There’s more to roofing than meets the eye. So let’s talk about what goes on, under the shingles.

The Roof Deck

We learn to crawl before we walk, so when talking about roofing let’s start with square one, the surface area of your roof which is made of wood. Your wood roof deck is comparable to an automobiles metal body. It is installed on top of the basic house frame to give a surface area on which to install Shingles. Without a roof deck installed on your house, there would be nowhere to install your Shingles. And of course without the shingles, your roof deck would rot away due to exposure to the sun, rain, snow and ice and etc…not a comfortable home at all!

On Newer Houses, sheets of plywood or OSB boards are fastened on top of wooden trusses in your attic to form the roof deck. Plywood or OSB boards are installed in a staggered formation with small spaces between them to allow wood to expand and contract as the wood heats in the summer and cools in the winter. Older homes often have lengths of 2″ x 6″ installed instead of plywood or OSB board. When the time comes for you to replace your Roof System, remember to have your Calgary Roofing Contractor replace any and all damaged wood.

Remember, if your roof deck is rotting or damaged in any way, people walking on your roof could potentially crack or break through the wood, causing further damage to the roof system, such as to the shingles…and to the person who walked on it! However, most roof decks can withstand a little bit of exposure to water or ice before it needs to be replaced.

Metal: Drip Edge and Rake Edge

Drip edge and Rake edge is the first part of the Roof System to be installed. It is a long and narrow piece of metal which is installed along each end of your Roof Deck, ie: along the eaves trough and along the gable ends.

Some area local building codes require the installation of Drip Edge and Rake Edge and other building codes do not. Check with your local city building offices to find out. In Alberta for example, the Building Code does not require the installation of Drip edge or Rake edge. Therefore many new homes and/or low budget roof systems do not have drip edge installed in order to allow for more affordable roof prices. We recommend however that Drip edge and Rake edge be installed on every Roof System, no exceptions.

Drip and Rake edge is available in a variety of different colors and sizes and can be custom built for the needs of your roof system. Installing an appropriate drip edge often saves hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars when your roof system needs replaced.

If your Roof System does not currently have drip or rake edge installed, do not panic, you’ll survive well enough. Just be aware that when your roof needs to be replaced, the Roofing Contractor you may need to replace some of your wood Roof Deck on an as needed basis.

Metal: Chimneys and Skylights

Arguably the most important part of every complete roof system. The metal installed in the valleys, chimneys and skylights take the brunt of water flow on every roof. Poorly installed, a brand new roof system can make a waterfall out of your living room.

Every chimney and skylight needs what is referred to as “a back pan”, which consists of sheet metal folded at around a 90 degree angle (depending on the slope of your roof) and tucks under the shingles and up under the siding, stucco or counter flashing on the chimney or skylight. Every back pan needs a small 2″ section of metal sticking out 1″ or more from either side of the chimney or skylight to divert water away from the corners. Water should hit the metal back pan and be directed away on either side where it can continue its run into the eaves trough.

Metal: Valleys

In the same way water runs along the valleys between two mountains, water runs along the valleys on your roof peaks. Valleys generally receive the highest concentration of water flowing through them, therefore installing them correctly is extremely important!

As mentioned in the Leak Barrier section, valleys have leak barriers installed underneath them. Even though some Building Codes do not require such a leak barrier to be installed, we recommend installing one always in every valley.

A word of caution: Many roofing contractors install valleys in a style referred to as ‘closed’. A closed valley consists of Shingles woven inside the valley, as opposed to an ‘open’ valley which has sheet metal running from top to bottom. Both the ‘open’ and the ‘closed’ style of installation are acceptable by the most Building Codes and by most manufacturers, however, the ‘open’ style installation has consistently out performed the ‘closed’ style…and costs exactly the same price to install. Ask your Roofing Contractor to use the ‘open’ style of installation for your roofs valleys, this could save you from having to replace your roof system prematurely and also can avoid headaches in the long run. Typically, an ‘open’ valley is installed with a 30 gauge sheet metal, 4′ wide, coming in 10′ sheets. This metal can be ordered in any color to match the shingles on your roof system.

Leak Barrier

Think of a leak barrier as a “second layer” of protection for your Roof Deck. A backup plan, if you will, and also a protection against moisture build up. Leak barriers are nearly always installed on top of the Drip Edge and Rake Edge metal along eaves trough areas, gable areas and valleys because of the risk these areas pose for leaks, ice build up, shingle deterioration and water back flow.

If you’ve ever looked at your roof during winter, you’ll notice how ice and snow builds up along the length of your eaves troughs and inside the roof valleys. As with Rake Edge and Drip Edge, some Building codes require Leak Barriers to be installed and some Building Codes do not. In Alberta, the Building Code requires a leak Barrier to be installed on all eaves trough and valley areas of a Roof Systems because of issues related to such snow and ice build up. As an optional upgrade, some high end roof systems even have leak barriers installed on top of the entire Roof Deck (as opposed to only along the special areas we just mentioned) where normally a standard Roof Deck Protection would normally have been installed.

Virtually all roofs in Calgary, Alberta have leak barriers installed, and many different types of leak barriers are available in today’s market, each offering a different level of reliability, functionality and warrantee and produced by many different manufacturers.

Choosing an appropriate Leak Barrier and installing it properly is an important step in every Roof System. Speak with your Roofing Contractor to learn more about leak barriers, how to choose the right one and how to choose a Professional Roofing Contractor to install it.

Roof Deck Protection

Roof Deck Protection is very similar to a Leak Barrier. The difference is that Roof Deck Protection is installed on the entire Roof Deck area instead of only on “special areas” as we mention in the Leak Barrier section.

Typically, Roof Deck Protection is a step lower in quality than a Leak Barrier. As with Leak Barriers however, there are many different types of Roof Deck Protection available to choose from ranging from basic felt/tar paper to advanced plastic woven sheets of rip and wrinkle proof material. Choosing a reliable Roof Deck Protection is an important part of a quality Roof System.

A word of caution; most roofing companies use felt paper as Roof Deck Protection. Although using felt paper is a standard and acceptable practice, some issues can arise if the felt paper becomes wet during or after the installation. Ever notice how paper tends to curl when it dries after it was wet? In a similar way, felt paper can curl if water or excess moisture touches it. For this reason, and because the cost is quite small, we recommend installing a higher quality Roof Deck Protection such as a GAF/ELK Deck Armour. For a relatively small additional cost, you’ll be rewarded with a much more reliable Roof Deck Protection.

Ask your local trusted Roofing Contractor about which under-layer would be best for your Roof System any why.

Conclusion

So there it is, life beneath the shingles. See how much goes on behind the scenes? Professional roofing contractors know this stuff inside and out and can help immensely in ensuring a roof system is reliable for many years. Product suppliers such as GAF/Elk and IKO can help answer specific questions about products as well.

All the best with your roofing project, and remember, be proactive, make educated decisions.

Tiling Tips – How to Avoid the Cowboy Tilers by Asking Simple Questions – Employ a Professional

Pre quotation stage

I would firstly like to point out that I’m not aiming to patronise anybody with any of my writing here, I’m simply extending my knowledge from inside the industry to enable the consumer to have more confidence to deal with any maybe cowboys that enter their home or industry. The way I see it at the moment is, that a lot of cowboy tradesmen are masquerading as professionals behind logos written on vans, by so called guilds and associations that only require a fee to join, and don’t actually mean that they are good tradesmen, so beware! Check them out first before allowing them into your home, or go for personal recommendation only, where you can see their work done for a friend or family. There are also some good recommended tradesmen websites to check out, just be sure to check for references, and try and find out the criteria needed for them to register on there or their affiliate membership association. Websites tell a great story about who you are dealing with. Invaluable in my honest opinion. As a professional tiler, it’s all too frustrating to see how many people are still hoodwinked into employing cowboys who want to do the job for maximum profit with minimum care.

Quotation stage

Assuming that you are happy with their credentials, or that, intuitively, the company/attitude feels correct, you are now at the point where it’s necessary to make contact with the company/person. It’s extremely difficult to get an accurate quotation over the phone, as every single job has different scenarios, in my opinion, it’s essential for the company/tiler to survey the site prior to a quotation.

On arrival at your premises, a professional, in my opinion, would need to have a means of writing information down, some form of measuring equipment, and a spirit level, at the very minimum, to be able to provide an accurate and fair quotation, I would be very concerned if there wasn’t a tape measure to take basic measurements. I would also expect eye contact, and a good general demeanour, feeling comfortable with your tradesperson is important for good communication later, should anything crop up. If you feel intimidated, go elsewhere. You may have to leave them in your house alone at some point, it’s unavoidable sometimes, would you trust this person?

When they/he/she have measured the area to be tiled, ask the following questions or similar, to establish their professionalism, and to get an idea of whether they know the correct procedure or not, you will understand the logical process of it all by collecting information at this stage, and you are more likely to get an accurate second opinion, if you need one.

1. How much preparation is necessary, and how long will it take? The answer should be something like; -x no. days to remove the tiles/wallpaper/paint; x days to re-board walls/floors or re-plaster/render to make good. (Sometimes it’s necessary for the tiler to go away and think carefully, so he/she/they should say so at this point). They also should have a rough idea of the time for the actual tiling work also at this point.

2. Do you prime the surfaces before tiling? The answer should be something like; All surfaces that need to be primed will be primed.

3How do you cut round the window? (if applicable). The answer should be something like; I centre the tiles to the window reveals and then cut to the corners of the room as they fall (if you have a tile handy it can be demonstrated there and then, it’s always handy to have a sample of the tile anyway so that the job can be priced according to the type of tiles to be fitted).

4How is/are the floor/walls going to be laid out? The answer should be something like, I centre the floor/ walls according to the obstacles at the edges and the position of pedestals (e.g. toilet/basin), if these are removed anyway, then the tiles would normally be centred to the room and tiled out to the edges so as to avoid slivers at the edges and in the corners. At this point, it’s good to agree which way round the tiles are going to face, and, if there are any patterns, borders to be fitted, or staggered joints. This way, there will be no surprises for either party when it comes to the start of the tiling itself, or at the time of billing when the price increases because the job has taken longer as a result of a bespoke design. Use your imagination as much as you like, a professional tiler can do almost any design with tiles, provided you want to pay for it of course, I find all too often that consumers are sometimes told what they are going to have, there’s no need, you have the choice!

5. How do you finish the edges and corners? The answer should be; silicon sealant to the floor edges(only if up against skirting or tiled walls or left open if skirting is to be fitted over the tile edges), silicon sealant to all the internal wall corners and around the bath and tanking behind the bottom tiles over the bath (to prevent water ingress around bath edges). At this point you should agree whether you want tile trims to exposed edges and external corners also, as with some tiles, it’s not necessary, and you may want to have the exposed corners with the tile edges mitred together. I would also hope that the tiler would give you the option of silicon to match the tiles and grout as closely as possible too, it shows conscientiousness.

6. What colour grout can I have? The answer should be; I can find a matching grout for you or a close colour, or you can have whatever colour you like (there aren’t many you can’t have- even sparkly pink is available). If you want to see a sample of the colour, most tile stores have grout swatches to look at, but, please bear in mind, that special colours may be more expensive and take a while to be delivered, compared to stock items.

It’s a lot to think about and remember, but don’t worry if you have to read it from notes while the tiler is there, I never have a problem answering questions, as I know my stuff and so should any other tiler that enters your house in my opinion, please don’t hold back! I can pretty much say that after these questions, you will know your tradesperson and their abilities pretty well to make an informed decision at this stage. I’m sure they will have shown their true colours by now. There are so many good tradespeople being robbed of work by the less caring among us, I feel with the experience I have gained over the years, that it would be a shame to keep this knowledge from people, so I felt I had to share it with you, and I hope that you may be able to use this format for any trade that you employ to work in your much treasured home in the future.

I am passionate about all things to do with tiles, whether it’s ceramic, marble, sandstone, limestone, granite, mosaic or slate tiles, I love them all, they make a huge impact in a room, and for relatively small outlay if that’s what you desire. My approach is unassuming, professional and friendly, which you will find out if you decide to take me on to beautify your home. My main areas of work are Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, and, I will travel anywhere to work, and, I will take on any design that you require, your imagination and budget are the only things that limit you.

If you would like to find out what a real professional tiler is, please click on my above url, here you will be taken to the homepage of my website, wherein, you will be able to find out more about the type of work that is the mainstay of my business and view some photos, and when it’s finally finished, a video of my work in progress.

Infrared Saunas – What Are They And What Do They Do?

Everyone knows what a sauna is, but what is a far infrared sauna? Not so many people are familiar with infrared saunas and what they do.

A regular sauna, often known as a Finnish sauna or hot rock sauna, works by heating the air inside the sauna. Anyone who sits in the sauna is thereby heated as well, and the heating effect produces various benefits, including a feeling of wellbeing, de-stressing and relaxation. There are also many health benefits claimed for sauna use.

However a regular, or Finnish, sauna can get up to temperatures of 200 deg or above, and can be quite uncomfortable. Many do not like the sensation of overheating and heavy sweating that come from a while in a regular sauna. And this is usually accentuated by the use of water thrown on the rocks to increase the humidity.

However the number of people who swear by the benefits of saunas are testament to how successful they are.

But there is a new kid on the block. The infrared sauna, otherwise known as the far infrared sauna.

Everyone knows about infrared light, even if they don’t know it. Every time the sun comes out from behind a cloud and you feel that immediate heating effect you are sensing the effects of far infrared light.

Infrared is light that comes from the invisible part of the suns spectrum of light waves. It lies somewhere between visible light, and microwaves. Infrared light, or more specifically the far portion of the spectrum, heats us up, but the light in the near part of the infrared spectrum does not.

Infrared has been used in therapies for many years, most are familiar with the old “heat lamps” that use infra red technology. And infra red heating is used in hospital humidicribs. However it is now also used in saunas to produce a more “user friendly” sauna.

As the infrared light used in the sauna does not heat the air as is the case in traditional saunas there is not the same sensation of overheating. The infrared light heats the body in the same way that the sun does, and this is much more relaxing, not producing the same sensations of overheating and oversweating.

And many say that all the therapeutic health benefits of saunas are equally available from infra red saunas, in fact more so. And there are many many claimed health benefits from the use of saunas, including weight loss, cardiovascular improvements, improvements in skin conditions, loss of cellulite in women, reduction in blood pressure and lots more. Infrared therapies are certainly on the rise.

Not only that but unlike traditional Finnish saunas, infrared saunas can be made light, easy to pack up and totally portable, so you can take it along with you. Throw a portable infrared sauna in the car when you go away and take it with you.

If you’re handy you can even build your own infrared sauna, so there’s no excuse not to have one.

Get yourself an infrared sauna, it’s way better than a traditional one, and just as good for you.

Choosing a Florist for Wedding Bouquets

Choosing a florist for wedding bouquets can be tricky but also easy, as long as you know what you’re looking for. But not every bride knows exactly what she is looking for, so here are a few tips to get you started to finding that perfect florist to help perfect your wedding.

Before visiting any florist, you’re going to want to figure out what colors your wedding is themed around. Knowing what colors you want in a bouquet will help the florist determine what flowers can be used, or what dyes the florist needs to prepare. If you know you want a specific type of flower, but you don’t know if they come in the color you’re looking for, ask the florist if they can dye flowers for you. For information on a flower shop in Raritan, NJ click here.

If you’re having trouble figuring out exactly what colors your wedding will have, bring samples of what you already have and the florist will probably be able to help you. Wedding bouquets can be very specific to your demand if you know what you want, and most florists are able to work with you on that. A good florist will always do his/ her best to meet your demands.

Florists are great at helping with designing the bouquets that you want. Even if you know what design you want, it’s always best to get a second opinion from the florist. They know exactly what colors and designs go well with each other, so they may have some suggestions on improvements to your design.

If you have no idea what design you’re wanting, a good florist will be able to give you several options of what to choose from. You can also try looking over the internet for different ideas. Ask for estimates to get the best deal. Compare prices and designs. Keep in mind that a good florist should know how to substitute expensive flowers with the one which look similar to save some money. Work with a florist that you feel comfortable with.

Choosing the right florist for your wedding can be difficult at times if you can’t seem to find what you’re looking for. Asking to see samples of the florist’s previous works for weddings will help you in your decision. If you’re not impressed, ask if you can pay a small fee for a sample of the design you want for your wedding bouquets. If they meet or surpass your expectations, then you’ve found yourself a florist for you wedding. That’s when it’s time to sit back, take a deep breath, and relax.

6 Trends in Modern Family Photography

Do you want your family photos to reflect your family’s style? Today’s families are using custom photography to tell a story with their family photos. Families are trending away from the chain photography studio shots and opting for more casual, documentary style photos. These photos can often show off your family’s personality and allow everyone to feel more at ease during the session. Check out these top trends in today’s modern family photos.

Urban Environments

Urban settings can provide a great backdrop for family photos. You can typically find an urban style location almost anywhere, but you’re most likely to find them in a downtown or historic area near you. Urban environments often contain brick walls, interesting stairways, train tracks, and walkways. Jeans and casual clothing typically work best in this environment.

Open Fields

You’ve probably passed that big empty field everyday on your way home, but never thought of it as a location for family photos. Open fields can often provide a great location for child, family and engagement photos. The emptiness and repetition of elements can let you be the star of your photos in this environment. You’ll want to have these sessions close to sunrise or sunset to get great lighting in your photos. Little girls in dresses are typically great for this location.

Your Home

Sometimes you don’t have to go anywhere at all. What better way to show your family in their “element” than to have photos taken in your home. You don’t have to have a million dollar home to have a great environment for family photos. Sometimes it can be something as simple as a favorite sofa, room, or wall in your house. If you have a room with great window light, that can be a great area for family photos. You can also move the family outdoors to your backyard for some family fun. Plan outdoor activities that the entire family can participate in to capture great family moments.

Candid Interaction

Gone are the days of stiff posing for the camera. We all remember those photos that mom made us take with everyone smiling, while posing on the person’s shoulder in front of them. Bleh. These days families are opting for candid style photos that show genuine interaction between them. Sometimes it just takes something as simple as telling a joke or playing tag to capture those candid moments on camera. Those photos are often the ones that are treasured for years.

Jeans/Casual Clothing

Everyone remembers dressing up in your best dress or suit for “picture day” back in the day. Today, family photos are often taken in casual clothing. You definitely don’t want your family to look like they just hopped out of bed but jeans and a nice casual shirt can sometimes make your family members feel at ease during your photo session. To get that polished look, try coordinating your family’s clothing color scheme. Come up with one color scheme or style that will determine what everyone in the family will wear. You don’t have to all dress alike, but coordinating your family’s clothing makes a more compelling photo in the end.

Unique Photo Gifts

While prints are certainly classic and timeless, today’s families are finding more unique ways to show off their photos. Custom coffee table books make great gifts and are the perfect alternative to the traditional photo album. Canvas gallery wraps can turn your family photo into a work of art that can be displayed almost anywhere in your home. Before starting your session, think about what you would like to do with your photos. Maybe you want something to help cover that empty wall, or perhaps a photo gift that you can send to grandma. Whatever the occasion, unique photo gifts can provide treasured memories for your family.

Modern family photography simply means capturing your family as they are. No frills or special tricks needed. Find a photographer that reflects your family’s style.

Top 10 Reasons You Should Hire A Professional Pest Extermination Company Vs DIY

When it comes to pest control problems, it simply isn’t worthwhile to take on the critters yourself. For one thing, if you don’t eliminate your infestation the first time you waste time and money. Relying on an expert extermination company means peace of mind as the job is done right, with a guarantee. If those reasons aren’t convincing enough for you to call your local pest extermination company, here are ten reasons you should hire a professional instead of trying to go it alone:

1. Leave The Chemicals To A Trained Professional.

There are some pest control companies that offer low-toxicity as well as organic options for home pest control. If you do opt for a chemical treatment to eliminate the pests in your home, it is much safer to leave the chemical application to the pros.

2. Cost-Effectiveness – Especially For Tough Infestations

If you’ve got a yearly ant problem that resolves itself after a couple of weeks and a few ant traps, that’s one thing. But if you have a rodent infestation, for instance, you will save yourself money, time, and trouble leaving this particular home pest control issue to the experts.

3. Products On The Market Won’t Always Help

For some types of animal or infestation, the products available at the hardware store will not eliminate your problem. When you hire a professional extermination company, you will receive a recommended course of action and the expertise of someone highly trained to execute it with the right product to ensure your pests are gone for good.

4. Leave The Unhygienic Pests To Someone Else.

Did you know that some mice carry hantivirus in their feces, and breathing it can be toxic to humans? Even if you don’t mind touching the creepy crawlers that infest their homes, know that if you want to take care of the bees, birds, mice, rodents, or snakes yourself, there are health risks involved.

5. Leave The Safety Risks To Someone Else, Too.

In addition to disease, some pests are simply dangerous to approach and can cause harm by stinging, biting, or clawing. A professional pest control company ensures their technicians are highly trained and prepared for all the risks involved in home pest control.

6. A Highly Trained Professional Is, Well, Highly Trained.

When you leave pest control extermination to professional pest control companies, you take away the predictable risk, but also the unforeseen that can happen when dealing with pest extermination. An expert will ensure you, your family, your pets, and your home are safe throughout the process.

7. The Right Tools For The Job.

Leave the dirty work to a professional pest control company and they’ll have the right tools for any job. If you’ve ever tried to get rid of a bee hive with a broom and a water hose, we’re talking to you.

8. Ease And Convenience.

For many people, handing over your pest problem to a professional is a very attractive option, for many reasons. Wouldn’t you prefer that someone else scale the ladder to deal with the hornet’s nest, venture into your dusty attic to get to the mice, or bravely face whatever is under your back deck?

9. Solving The Problem, Versus Hiding The Symptoms.

While you may be able to remove your pest control problems for a while, you may only be covering up the symptoms while the infestation continues to thrive. A professional pest extermination company will search for the root cause and solve it.

10. Save Precious Time.

If your first, second, and third attempt to eliminate pests fail, you have not only wasted money, but precious time. Hire an expert to get your home pests dealt with right away and save yourself the added frustration of time lost.

Many people think professional pest control is expensive. But when you add up your own personal time, money spent on products, and potential health and safety risks, most people find hiring a pro is the smartest option in the long run.

Proper Stump Removal

Whether you’d like to remove a tree or you moved to a place where stumps need to be removed, grinding is the best way to do the job.

Removing tree stumps and the root system might just be the hardest part of tree removals. This is why you should properly prepare for the hard job or just hire a professional service. If you choose professional help, make sure to ask for an estimate before hiring them. You can also opt for renting a stump grinder, but the grinders that are used for lending usually aren’t as strong as the ones the workers use because of safety issues.

If you choose to manually remove the stump, you need a lot of patience and a mattock. Using an ax, shovel, hoe, pick and/or chain saw might help you dig out the stump, but it can take you days and the process might end unsuccessfully.

An efficient but slower method for stump removal is to let nature do the work for you, the only thing you can do to speed up the rotting process is to add nitrogen and water.

You can also use a stump grinder which has a rotating cutting disk that chips away the wood. The disk has unique metal teeth that destroy the stump as well as the root system, turning everything into small chips of wood. The root system has to be destroyed at a depth between six inches and one foot, which would allow the soil to remain healthy and usable for later planting.

All in all, the final step of the tree removal is the removal of the stump, which can be complicated but the easiest way is to hire professional service. For Stump Removal Hampshire click here.

Google Reviews Don’t Just Affect Your Online Reputation – Reviews ARE Your Online Reputation

How important are reviews and what is the impact on your web marketing?

There are many marketing benefits to be gained from lots of positive reviews. (These are defined by Google as reviews with 3 ½ stars out of 5.)

  1. Positive reviews make it easy for shoppers to select you over your competition
  2. They add keyword-rich content when you post them on your site
  3. They can generate referrals from one customer to another
  4. They add credibility to your website
  5. They allow you the opportunity to address poor reviews before they begin to tarnish your reputation
  6. Your paid search ads (Google AdWords) will display the bright orange stars to viewers on the search result pages. This has a huge influence on the click-through-rates because the ads practically jump off the pages.
  7. Your natural (organic) listing may also display the stars, making even lower position results stand out
  8. Provide improved rankings on the search engines
  9. Populate the Internet with positive reviews
  10. Become one of the most influential and trusted service providers in your community.

In order for your business to begin to see these some of these benefits you’ll need a minimum of 30 reviews in the previous 12 month period. And you’ll need to ensure at least 30 reviews in any given 12 month period moving forward.

Make it easy for your customers to post reviews

Simply send them an email with links to your review sites. This way, your customer is already at their computer, ready to write a review right when they receive your request. The link prevents them from having to search for your business’ review page.

Most business owners struggle to get customers to leave reviews. The good news is that is has become easier than ever for you to leap ahead of your competition.

But it begins and ends with you… website operators who get it and fully understand the value find a way to get them. And, if you get it, getting reviews is really quite easy.

Don’t be tempted to incentivize your customers to leave reviews

Google says this can be construed as a “bribe”. Here’s what Matt McGee from Google has to say:

“Reviews are only valuable when they are honest and unbiased. Even if well-intentioned, a conflict of interest can undermine the trust in a review. For instance, do not offer or accept money or product to write positive reviews about a business, or to write negative reviews about a competitor.

Please also do not post reviews on behalf of others or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with the place you are reviewing.”

The benefits to buy Google Reviews for Google my business process for website operators are enormous. Failure in this arena will become progressively more costly in the coming months and years.

Your competition is just beginning to catch on so you still have the opportunity to gain a substantial edge in winning the trust of more new customers than ever.

90% of customers say buying decisions are influenced by online reviews. “According to a new survey conducted by Dimensional Research, an overwhelming 90 percent of respondents who recalled reading online reviews claimed that positive online reviews influenced buying decisions, while 86 percent said buying decisions were influenced by negative online reviews.”

If you ignore these facts, you do so at great peril.

Consumer reviews are gaining importance in landslide proportions so now is the time to act.

Five Questions You Have to Ask Your Acupuncturist!

Acupuncture works! But your experience with acupuncture will depend largely on the acupuncture provider that you choose.

You want to find an acupuncturist that best suits your needs. If you like and trust your practitioner, your encounter with acupuncture will be more positive.

You will also want to know about the acupuncturists training and experience and what to expect from the acupuncture treatment. The clearer you are about who it is that is treating you and exactly what the treatment entails, the more you will be able to relax during the acupuncture session and benefit from this ancient form of health care.

Determine your goals

Do you have a specific injury or complaint or do you want to try acupuncture to balance body, mind and spirit? Are you looking for a primary health care practitioner, or someone to work in conjunction with your current physician?

Here are some questions that you should ask when choosing an acupuncturist.

  • Where was he or she trained to practice Oriental Medicine?
  • How long was the training?
  • How long has he or she been in practice as an acupuncturist?
  • What experience does he or she have in treating your specific ailment?
  • Is he or she licensed?

What Qualifications to look for when Choosing an Acupuncturist

Today acupuncture is an acknowledged and respected field of medicine. In most States, provinces and countries formal training and certification is required in order to practice.

The United States has set rigorous training standards for acupuncturists. Most states require a 3-5 year Masters degree in Oriental Medicine from an accredited acupuncture school and issue a written and practical state board exam before an acupuncturist can become licensed.

In the states that do not require licensing, choose an acupuncturist certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists. Its members have a degree in Oriental Medicine from an accredited school-or have worked as an apprentice acupuncturist for at least four years – and have passed both a written and practical exam. Acupuncturists who have passed this exam are entitled to add Dipl. Ac. (Diplomate of Acupuncture) or Dipl. O.M.. (Diplomate of Oriental Medicine) after their name.

Acupuncture requirements for Western doctors are generally more lenient than for non-MD’s. Choose a physician who also a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.). If there are none near you be sure that the M.D. or D.O. is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture; it requires a minimum of 200 hours of training for membership.

Veterinary acupuncture is considered a surgical procedure that, legally, may ONLY be performed by a licensed doctor of veterinary medicine.

Ask About Treatment Styles

Acupuncture and Herbology encompass several distinctive styles. Korean acupuncture, for example, primarily uses points on the hand, while Japanese acupuncture calls for fewer and finer needles inserted at shallower depths.

There is no evidence that one particular style is more effective than another, but you should know what you are getting into.

Discuss Length of Treatment

Decide in advance what your expectations are and discuss them with your acupuncturist in Dublin. A chronic illness may need several months of acupuncture treatment to have a noticeable effect. If you are not happy with your progress, think about changing acupuncturists or check with your western doctor for advice about other options.
